Ford kills it

Back to back drives, you’ll feel IFS driving much better on the test drive.

Most dealers I have been to have a predefined route that highlights their relative strengths. They don't like when I have ignored their directions but even so, depending on your area - finding the differences to highlight is more for people that are looking for it. My guess is that a lot of folks make up their minds before even getting into something, unless there is a very telling reason to overturn the decision.

I guess this is the result of the industry adopting new technology (transmissions) to meet EPA requirements (among other things). Wait until these transmissions have been out for over 10 years and you'll likely have something solid. But when they are new to the market, it might be painful.

Makes you appreciate an old manual transmission, I'll tell you that much.

Love mine!! 👍

The ZF 8 speed in both my 2014 and 2019 have both been awesome. I will say the 5.7 hemi has a lot of valve noise. I really was hoping for a 6.4 Rebel package, but gave up and got a Laramie with the Sport package too. 12" screen and pano roof. I like it.

I REALLY like the new Rams. Man they are nice and you have a great looking truck!!!! I’d be happy to own one. If I was I. The market for a new truck, I believe that Ram is my top spot.

Same, basically since 2014 given the truck options I would lean toward the RAMs (the 2500 or 3500, anyway). Prior I was favorable toward the power strokes.

Possibly. You can always ask or find a dealer that will play ball. We have a local one that will give you an overnight to test. I think that’s a legit practice. On a big purchase, I want more than 10 minutes behind the wheel.

I've noticed that too! I was offered an overnight recently, and tesla offered a week.

I like watching all the Tesla's parked at the charging stations at the gas station I fill up at by the highway. I get a tank of gas in 5 minutes, and they hang around for an hour twiddling their thumbs. I like the technology, just not ready for me yet. It is kind of cool the station had the foresight to install a bank of Tesla chargers. They have a captive customer base from it.

The feel is a bit intoxicating... I almost got a model 3 after 30 minutes behind the wheel of a friend's model Y.

However there's lots of reasons to stick with ICE still.

Yes, my doctor has two Tesla’s and an electric bike. He LOVES them and I get the instant torque of electric, that snappy power rocks!!!!

If the new Jeeps weren't so #($* expensive then it wouldn't be so bad. I don't ever remember anyone saying TJs were expensive back when I got mine. For what you're getting on a new one.. screw that mess. New Bronco is pretty cool. People have been talking about this day coming for years. Jeeps problem is now they're in the direct crosshairs of it because they put themselves there they way they market and price this new crap. Like others have said, maybe it's a good thing. Jeep can off their asses and design something better.

I keep hearing about Ford's better prices and options, but I don't see it. If I get the base model I'm stuck with the 2.3L I4 and manual transmission. I add the Sasquatch package to a full sized based 4 door and I'm at $40,000 MSRP. I doubt given the new release I'll get any deals from the dealer and with demand the price may go higher.

I priced a low option Rubicon on the Jeep website and it started at $41,000 and I ended at around $42,500 set up with a couple extra options. Looking at the Jeep/Ford options the pricing comes out basically a wash.

As far as Ford giving more options, I can only get the manual transmission with the 4 cylinder. The larger engine requires an automatic. When you switch from the manual you lose the crawler gear ratio everyone is talking about. The Bronco automatic option has a worse crawl ratio than the Jeep automatics.

They really compare well to each other right now. The IFS and hydraulic automatic disconnects, driving modes, and automatic sensors to lock and unlock the axles are different. They have a computer to help automate off road driving which will help keep some inexperienced people from getting stuck. Those people will give online opinions about how Ford is better off road. It is, at helping bad drivers drive off road. Hopefully all that can be turned off like turning off lane assist, adaptive cruise, etc on new cars that help bad on road drivers now.

Jeep will add a bigger engine, some of the new electronic driving sensors, computer automate more of the driving, round some body panels, and add a bigger tire/lift option. Ford's upper end $50,000 category starting price will set the target for that stuff.

My guess is Jeeps will get more expensive not less.

Well as impressive as it is, there is no way it will be as durable or bulletproof as the Wrangler. Rack and Pinion steering buried up in the chassis. Shocks which incorporate the spring mount. Cast alloy front suspension arms. Way more parts/pieces than a Wrangler and all engineered to fit without any extra space to get yer hands in there. Reading the Ford designers comments they built it more for speed, lighter components, tighter steering, lower unsprung weight, I get the impression that while it looks the part of a rugged crawler and has some impressive equipment it will be as easy to wheel as a Liberty.

Built for speed but not built to be rebuilt on the trail.

The best news will be Jeep responding with lockers on all models and a 35s option from the factory. Cuz altho the Bronco is impressive, its 10 wider than a TJ and it must be heavier. I'm thinking the 4 door is bigger than the original Wagoneer.
