For all of us with two wheels also

I've gotten the GL engine about 99% broken down.

I've set apart the bits I need to repair the CX. The stator is perfect. And other than this engine missing a couple of oil changes and having dried coolant in the block, it's in decent shape. There's still cross-hatching in the cylinders.
I'm boxing up the bits and hauling them up to the attic later today. The tear down on the CX will start after Turkey Day.

Hail naw!

I rode one years and for miles.
Now, I'm smart enough to know my bones are too old to play on a unicycle!

It's either this or break out the skateboard. I recall unintended unicycle dismounts being slow with less blood spilled than hitting the skateboard death wobble then hitting the pavement.

It's tough being the cool grandpa.

I read through the beginning of this thread almost a year ago, admiring everyone’s two-wheel stories and pictures. Little did I know I would be making my entry now, but here it goes!

Up to a couple months ago, I didn’t have much experience on motorcycles at all, but I recently took the opportunity to join some friends for a ride on the Sandstone trail in Kisatchie National Forest in central LA. Lots of rolling hills, sugar-sand beds, rocks, and hard pack dirt made for a fun trail.

The borrowed bike I was on, however, is a 150cc Honda XR with very smooth all-terrain tires. Other than the sand wiping me out a couple of times, I and the bike did pretty well. I have years of experience mountain biking which REALLY helped with body positioning, line choice, and confidence off-road on two wheels. Well, I found out what all the motorized two-wheel fuss is all about - it was a blast!

After perusing Marketplace for several weeks, I found a deal I couldn’t pass up - a 2015 Yamaha YZ250F in great condition for $2500. And it was just my luck to be the first one there early Saturday morning to look at the bike. A few hours later and it was home!

Now, I did not realize just how much faster a 250cc race bike is than a 150cc adventure bike. This thing is SCARY fast. The front tire is very happy to leave the ground. I’ve only put a few yard hours on it, but I’m eager to go back to the Sandstone trail and have another go at it!

Needless to say, this is way more bike than I can currently handle at my skill level, so I’m also getting some proper protective gear and taking it easy while I’m still learning and growing into it.

Make sure you don't skimp on the chest protector, boots and especially the helmet.

I'd potentially not be able to walk today if I hadn't bought a good chest protector.

I've taken the ambulance ride that I don't remember because I didn't wear my helmet once.

Yikes. Duly noted! My collection so far: Alpinestars sm3 helmet and goggles, bionic action v2 protection jacket (CE lvl 1 chest, back, shoulders, and elbows), and some crusty old O’Neal boots that the seller threw in for free. The Alpinestars stuff seems to be good quality, and I’m glad I found good eBay and marketplace deals for them. I’m thinking about getting some knee guards too.

An alpinestars jacket like that is what saved me so that's a good choice. I've also run pretty cheap plastic ones that are more of a roost protector than anything and I'm thankful I I went full jacket that day I wrecked.

Looks like you should have some good gear, have fun.

What size boot do you wear? I've got a pair of boots I had when I was riding my quad that I don't wear anymore. They are a 10.5 or 11... I'll have to find them and verify the size. But if they'd fit they are yours for the cost of shipping.

I really appreciate that offer. The boots I have are 11, but they’re just a bit too tight. I’m eyeing a marketplace deal on a better pair in size 12 that I might buy.

OK... Always willing to pass on stuff I have I don't need anymore.

Well, got the fuel pump replaced in the Buell and still no fire. Was hopeful that the injectors weren’t clogged since when I pulled the line at the rail it looked clean, but not so lucky. Not even a dribble out of them. Sending them out to be cleaned/tested tomorrow, hopefully they’re savable as it looks like the injectors for the ‘03-‘04 are discontinued and there doesn’t seem to be an alternative. On the plus side it runs on carb cleaner so if I can get this issue sorted I think we’ll be in business!

Thanks @Wildman for the manuals! Already came in handy for torque specs!

Hopefully you can get it figured out... Maybe that hopup book for Sportsters has some other injectors that might work if you can't get the stock ones fixed?
