I had a friend riding my CX500. He dropped it at a stop sign and broke the turn signal. After getting it back up, I told him to put the side stand down, but he didn't bring it all the way down and the bike fell over the other way. It bent the crap out of the clutch lever and landed on the shifter. Now I can't get it lower than 3rd gear. 🤬 Right now, the CX is still in the back of my pickup, waiting for some strong backs to help me roll it down and into the groj.

Fixing it is not a priority, mainly because I have the Ural. I'm going to have to pull the engine, again, to deal with the transmission and I am not in that much of a rush at the moment. I have bigger fish to fry getting prepped for winter.

Dang! That sucks.
Must be a good dude if you let him ride your scooter though.

Show me your gremlin bells!

I know its generally a Harley thing, but I never played by the rules.
Here's mine on my new to me KTM 1290 SAS.
Bent the rules slightly and attached it myself since my best friend won't be in Italy for a while.
Please excuse the mess in the garage. FINALLY got our household goods yesterday. It was nice to finally hug my toolbox again. ❤️

Hope it works in Sicily!
Funny, I've had one ever since my grandma gave me one for my old Maxim-X.
After I rode to their house in Arkansas to collect my wife and kids after hurricane Hugo.
Grandpa was checking out my bike and saying it was nice but needed a bell. He asked grandma if she still had HER bell from HER Harley and she spent the whole day digging through boxes, and screamed when she found it.
I caught some shit for having it hanging on my old ZX-10.

The ZX-10?
One of my favorite bikes ever. Fastest production bike made in '89. I thought i needed such things back then.
Now I know that bike was faster than my angels could fly😅🤣

Also, a beautiful bike!
My first dedicated adventure bike.
I did not know what I was missing!
That thing is just about perfect around here.
The roads are crap here and that thing eats everything you throw at it, EXCEPT for weak batteries.
That thing is gonna see all of Europe before we transfer!

I have one on the CX. Probably saved the rider from me wringing his neck.

I'll have to find pictures of mine.... I've had a few... I don't know that it's JUST a Harley thing since I've seen them on all types of bikes.

The tradition of the gremlin bell dates back to World War II, when RAF pilots attached small bells to their aircraft to ward off mischievous spirits, or "gremlins," that caused mechanical problems. When these pilots returned home and became motorcycle riders, they brought this superstition with them, attaching bells to their bikes to protect against road spirits and accidents. The modern gremlin bell tradition symbolizes brotherhood, remembrance, and good luck for a biker.

The World War II Origin
  • "Gremlins":
During World War II, military pilots, particularly those in the Royal Air Force (RAF), faced significant stress, fatigue, and sometimes the effects of stimulants. This environment led to the myth of "gremlins"—imaginary creatures responsible for mechanical failures and mishaps in the aircraft.

    • Bells as Protection:
To ward off these perceived threats and maintain focus, pilots would hang small bells in their cockpits. The noise from the bells was believed to either repel the gremlins or serve as a reminder to stay alert.

      Transition to Motorcycling
        • Post-War Riders:
After the war, many former pilots transitioned into civilian life and embraced motorcycles.
        • Carrying the Tradition:
They carried the superstition of the gremlin bell with them, attaching these charms to their motorcycles.
        • Biker Brotherhood:
The tradition evolved within the growing motorcycle culture, particularly among groups like Harley-Davidson riders, becoming a symbol of brotherhood and mutual protection.
      The Modern Tradition
        • Gift-Giving:
A key aspect of the modern gremlin bell tradition is that the bell should be a gift from a fellow rider, not bought by the recipient.
        • Symbolic Meaning:
A gifted bell is seen as an act of good will and represents the care and protection of one rider for another.
        • A Symbol of Good Luck:
While the supernatural belief in "road gremlins" is often seen as a myth, the bell remains a popular and meaningful symbol of good luck and safe travels for motorcyclists.

A decent turnout of bikes at the local Lions Club Car Show yesterday. My buddy, Chris, had his 77 Sporty take Best Stock Motorcycle for the second year in a row. My Ural was a few votes short, but made a lot of kids happy when I let them sit in the sidecar.

Many of us were a little unhappy with the winner of the best Custom Motorcycle as it was bought, not built. We felt that it should have gone to a hand built 58 HD chopper and our entire ABATE group told that to its owner.

Chris and a couple other ABATE guys rode over to my place after the show and helped me get the pig of the CX out of the pickup and into the groj.

🤬 The left turn in front of a motorcyclist is the number one cause of a car/motorcyclist crash.

The guy on the sports bike was playing stupid games and won a stupid prize .

Lots of discussion both ways as to who was wrong in the comments.

I’m going with when assholes collide.

Left turner wasn’t clear. Took a long time to get out to see if the guy was ok.

Biker was unsafely fast and also crossed the double yellow. Was probably target fixated and should have been able to steer around or at least try.
