For all of us with two wheels also

Test rode a 2017 CVO Ultra Classic today.
Nice bike w/ plenty of power out of the 114.

So far, it's at the top of the list...

Like most bikes out there, I'll need to add 14" bars and a seat that scoots me back away from the tank a bit.
I had to lift my entire right leg to apply the rear brakes, because my feet are so close to the pedal I couldn't just apply them w/ the ball of my foot

Not to tell you NOT to get a Ultra but have you ever test rode a Road Glide? My BIL was amazed at the difference when I let him borrow mine for a while at the difference between them. Just a suggestion....

I really enjoyed reading through this thread.
Thank you, Wildman, for getting this started and congrats for getting your daughter started on bikes.

I started out in high school in the mid80s on a GS850 as my first bike. Enjoyed the shit out of it but had no self control and sold it to my Brother in Law (who literally put, like 200k miles on that thing) and got away from 2 wheels for awhile.
After the wife and I said adios, I got another Suzuki then a Kawasaki Vulcan.
Hit a deer and totaled out the Kawi so replaced it with a Shovelhead Superglide Harley.
With the help of a couple of good friends, we rebuilt the old girl and I rode the piss out of it.
Believe it or not that thing was dead reliable.
I lived in northern Mn at the time and made a few trips to Chicago and KC on her, besides all the other running around.
Good times.
It wasnt fast by any stretch but some of the guys I rode with at the time (who rode mostly hot rods and full customs) like to run hard. I did my best to keep up.
Money got tight and I (regretibly) sold it.
A year or 2 later, bought a Shovel Wide Glide, which has always been my dream bike (actually, my dream bike is a 96" foot clutch hard tail Shovelhead, but I digress)...
I put a homemade foot clutch setup on the Wide Glide probably 15 years ago. I love that bike.
I'll see if I can find some good pics of it. It's looking pretty ratty anymore. Time for a redo.

Anyway, thanks again for getting this thread going!

I don't care for the fairing on the pre-16 RG's (too round) and I'm still not sold on the newer ones.
My buddy has a '24 that's pretty cool, but that's beyond my budget and need.

I'm a batwing guy through & through.
No Road Kings for me either.

Just thought I'd ask... My BIL is a Batwing guy too but he's talked about converting...

If it's a fairing bike it's a Road Glide for me...

Same. I had a 15 Street Glide for a very short amount of time and just couldn’t dial out the buffeting of the helmet. I tried every gimic out there with the final solution being lower fairings and that eliminated about 90% of it, but after an hour or two on the road I still couldn’t stand it.

I was never a Harley guy so I thought the stock 103 twin cam was too anemic anyways, so when I jumped on my ‘24 RG for a test ride I was sold instantly. Smooth air, acceptable power, and I like the tech with CarPlay and all that crap to connect to my Cardo. I spent way less on the ‘24 than I would have getting the ‘15 to a level that I thought was comparable to the ‘24 despite the fact that I couldn’t get the wind management of the batwing to work for me.

I know that whole subject of buffeting is touchy with the majority saying people like me are crazy and just need to suck it up, but I think there are 2 factors that cause it to the point it is dangerous, like it was for me. Short legs and a full face helmet. The dirty air that causes the buffeting comes from around/below the tank. I think those with longer legs their knees stick far enough forward that it breaks that up. The others that don’t wear a full face helmet usually don’t experience it either. I was F’d. Short legs are here to stay and a full face is a non-negotiable.

Anyways, long pointless story to say I’m a Road Glide guy too because of the wind management.

I still do think the batwings are one of the best looking bikes. Here was my ‘15.

Happy dog is a blur in both pics

Cooper is always happy!
Maybe cause he's so dopey!
Not enough brain to run his ears and his nose at the same time!
He was billed as a rotty/shepherd mix...mom is a rotty dad was definitely NOT a GSD!
Best dog i ever had-a once in a lifetime dog, was a rotty/shepherd mutt. Smartest animal I've ever seen. Didn't even train him really, just talked to him and showed him things and he picked it up immediately. Smart, disciplined, fiercely loyal, if you ever get the opportunity to have a rotty/ shepherd mutt, do it. I miss the hell out of Bullitt.
Ex had him put down just to fuck with me when we divorced. It worked.
Alas, there ain't no shepherd in Cooper. He's a rotty/beagle mutt. You can't train the nose and prey drive out of a beagle and he pursues it with rotty strength and determination.
He has achieved family status though, so we love him and he will be cared for for life. Pretty sure he's my last dog.
Diesel (shitzu) was the wife's dog when I met her. He's a good natured little foot warmer, but 100% useless as an actual dog! Hell, he won't even pick up chips off the floor!

Something a little different. The 1970-ish Herters Mini Trail mini bike is a goer.

The handling is crap. The braking is awful. Yet, it's an absolute howl to ride. Mrs.Cheesy said she could hear me hooting over the open exhaust. At low speed, that fat rear tire does not want to lean. WOT is a different story. It leans and hauls ass.

This used to belong to my SIL's Dad. They asked if I could breathe new life in it. I replaced the non-existent Clinton/Tecumseh engine with the slant B&S OHV that I had on the shelf. That was an absolute pain in the ass to fit in there. It had the front wheel from a Honda ZA 50 on it. I found what's on the front now at a groj sale down the street for $5. Rebuilt the Salsbury torque converter. New bearings throughout, new belt and chains, new bushings in the rear shocks, bushings and a grease zerk in the swingarm.

It's not finished yet. I still need to fab an exhaust, fit a kill switch on the handlebar, sandblast the tank and belt guard, followed by paint on those. I figure another couple of weeks and it will move to the SIL's groj. Which means more room in mine.

I had a friend riding my CX500. He dropped it at a stop sign and broke the turn signal. After getting it back up, I told him to put the side stand down, but he didn't bring it all the way down and the bike fell over the other way. It bent the crap out of the clutch lever and landed on the shifter. Now I can't get it lower than 3rd gear. 🤬 Right now, the CX is still in the back of my pickup, waiting for some strong backs to help me roll it down and into the groj.

Fixing it is not a priority, mainly because I have the Ural. I'm going to have to pull the engine, again, to deal with the transmission and I am not in that much of a rush at the moment. I have bigger fish to fry getting prepped for winter.

What year's your CX? I had an '80 CX500D - beautiful bike.
