Anyone have any knowledge/experiences with the Firestone Destination X/T? Looks like a (good?) compromise between an AT and an MT to my eye - and what the guy at the Firestone shop said. Would be 31-10.5/15 on Ecco rims...

There were brand new Destinations on my 2000 TJ when I first bought it. I didn't like them in wet weather at all.

I had to go back to a photo to be sure. They were 33x12.5x15 A/T's. I just remember they were horrible in the rain. Maybe the XT's are better?

No experience with them, but Tire Rack has a good user review section for tires.

The LTX have an extra 5,000 mileage rating (E) over the Destinations and are about $70 more a tire in the same size; the Destinations are Severe Snow Service rated and I couldn't find any info on whether the LTX are snow rated.
Both tires have good reviews.

I keep running across info/reviews on the AT version "everywhere", not so much on the XT, which has a considerably more aggressive tread than most ATs of any mfg.

I'm not a fan. I sell them and tires do not perform well IMO with the solid center bead.

A similar tire category wise that is exceptionally better and wears like iron..
Michelin LTX AT/2

Good luck
From my perspective, that isn't even in the same category. General "Grabbers" might be, but that particular Michelin is more like the Firestone Destination AT, not Destination XT.

Don't get me wrong - the Firestone certainly isn't "my dog" in the ever going fight as to which tire is best - I'm just looking for something in that class. There's a couple of Coopers that seem to be vaguely similar to the XT as well.

never had them on a Jeep yet, but I'm currently running them on both my GMC Sierra, and my Chevy Trailblazer and I love them in any weather

I've got the General Grabbers on my YJ and they're OK but not had them in the kind of stuff I've driven the destinations in

I’ve been happy with my Grabber A/TXs. I’ve put 20k plus on them in all sorts of weather, dirt, gravel, sand, and light mud. They don’t behave as well as a dedicated snow tire (usually run Firestones for that) but they’ve been solid nonetheless. I commute 120 miles everyday. Comparing the two in 31 gives you 16/32” tread for the A/TX at 45.8 lbs and 15/32” tread at 40 for the Firestone. Less rugged sidewall and tread in exchange for lighter rotating mass.

I had Firestone Destination A/T's on my Comanche and they were good for what I used them for which was most conditions except off road. I later went to a larger size and got Cooper ATP's. No complaints there either.

I just looked up the XT because I wasn’t familiar. It’s a good looking tire because it has that classic BFG AT tread pattern (very similar). I like the appearance of the XT tire a lot more than the Firestone AT.

@Zorba - If you're looking for a hybrid tire seriously consider the Mickey Thompson ATZ P3. I've been through numerous A/T and M/T tires and this is my favorite by far. They work well in all conditions, look great, wear well, and have a tough 3 ply sidewall. A 31x10.50R15 set (This will be my 3rd set) is going on my latest build.

FWIW, MT also has a new Baja Boss A/T, but it's not currently available in any 31" size. Below is a link to the ATZ P3

Yep - those look very similar indeed! I'll add those to the list of possibilities. Thanx!
