Feedback on wheels for my stock height TJ?

My TJ is mostly a pavement cruiser that my kiddo can climb into for school and fun runs, and I like the retro look, so I'm looking for a polished/chrome bullet hole wheel to put on my stock-height TJ.

I think I'm on track for a 15x8 wheel with 31" rubber, like these:

- Mammoth 8s: https://www.extremeterrain.com/mammoth-jeep-wrangler-8-aluminum-polished-wheel-15x8-j143268.html
- Or these MT Classic IIIs: https://www.mickeythompsontires.com/wheels/classic-iii
- Or these ProComp vintage: https://www.extremeterrain.com/pro-...gler-vintage-polished-wheel-pxa1069-5865.html
- Or 1069 polished (how are these different from the vintage, no idea...) - https://www.extremeterrain.com/pro-comp-alloys-1069-tj-yj-pxa10695865.html

For those who know, these will bolt up to my stock TJ without issue, and from there its just a matter of finding a good tire for them, yes?

Also, I can't find great /recent info that any of these wheels is really better than any other, so any sage advice on why MT is better than Mammoth, etc?

TIA

I am all about keeping a period correct look.

All three of those wheels are polished aluminum not chrome. The polished aluminum does need some attention if you care to keep them looking good, but letting them go to a dull aluminum finish has a certain retro charm too. It's not a ton of work to keep them looking good; I do it twice a year and it takes about two hours to do all five... less if I don't take them off and more if I let them go for too long. The Flitz line-up of polishing products is by far the best I have used and I've used pretty much all.

Looks like both of your links lead you to a ProComp 1069. And when compared to the newer MT Classics III, the 1069 holes are a little smaller. You can't go wrong with either the ProComp or Mickey Thompson. I have no intel on the Mammoth wheels though the face looks to be a little less dished.

I have the 1069's, but in 15x10 with Falken AT3W 33's. Bolt up with no issue. Tons of pics in my forum albums if you want to see how they look.

That said, I have been looking for a set of Mickey Thompson Classic Locks for years and finally found them. I did an all-day road trip to pick them up in Rhode Island. So I am going to be selling the ProComps 1069s. Production for the Classic Locks stopped back in 2015 and these were really hard to find one wheel, let alone five. I found five with two full sets of bead lock rings and all the bolts.

Can't really tell you why/if one option is better than another. Visually, I like all of them.

Those wheels will all fit in a 5x114.3 (5x4.5) bolt pattern. They are all fine. It’s your aesthetic choice. I like the Mammoth’s. Then just get tires.

Thanks

With the ProComps for example. with a 3.75" backspacing, will I have any issues with fenders? I have a Sahara and understand the fenders are wider than standard, but want to be sure I clear them. Any insights from anyone?

Are you trying to keep the tires within the flares without any poke? Backspacing of 3.75” will probably stick out a bit unless you have extremely narrow tires.

Here’s mine with 33x10.5x15 tires on 3.75” backspacing wheels with Rubicon flares:

The metal fenders are all the same on TJ’s. The flares are the plastic part attached to the fender. Your question involves more than just backspace. Lift height, tire width, tire size, and backspace.

ProComp 69's. 15x10. 3.75" Backspace.
Falken Wildpeaks, 33x12.5
2.5" SL

They extended far beyond the stock flares and I'd say would still extend past the wider Sahara/Rubi width flares. Too far for me...

Mostly I'm concerned that the rubber will hit the flares - since they're painted, want to avoid damage to them. If the articulation will tuck them under when compressed I'll be good.

Hello there MikekiM. I am new to the forum and just purchased a stock TJ 2005 X model. (I had a 92 YJ 20+ years ago, dang I am old...) I really like the look and stance of your TJ. Can you share with me the mods you have done? Mainly looking for the suspension and supporting mods, tire and wheel setup, etc. Thanks in advance.

3" Spring lift, no body lift
3/4" leveling puck up front
Adjustable track bars
33x12.5 Falken Wildpeaks on 15x10 ProComp 69s (waiting for warm weather to swap the 15x10 ProComps for 15x8.5's)
