EV thread

I'm concerned about that thing being on the beach, you know, with a massive amount of salt water nearby.

I'll be watching to see how the Pelosi EV stocks trade before that happens. My guess is that the EV market will take a massive blow when the subsidies dry up, and all the OEMs who declared no ICE in the near future suddenly have a new ICE platforms.

The closer to (my)home it hits, the better.

It's probably where EVs should be focused, but I think the lack of range will likely be a deal breaker for many.

I agree it should be focused there, all these companies, GM, Ford, Toyota, Tesla and on and on could pump out $20,000 EVs all day long IF they wanted to, but they'd rather pump out 80k shit buckets full of mostly worthless tech that not many people want & even fewer can afford.

I'd buy a 20k EV in a heartbeat, the lack of range wouldn't be a deal breaker in my situation, 99% of my driving is very much well under 120 miles/day, as I suspect applies to a shit-ton of others.

Range shouldn't be an issue as a commuter vehicle. If the price gets low enough then you add it to your collection along side the road trippers and weekend cruisers.

exactly, I'd toss one of these in the garage maybe (🔥🧑‍🚒🚒) alongside the AWD subbie battle wagon that gets 450 miles per tank; cheap daily scatting around town & shitty weather/long range travel bases covered.

Oh, & the TJ too, something has to look pretty.

I wonder what the take rate is for the Nissan Leaf S $ 28,150 and 149 mile range . My neighbor has a Rivian pickup with the largest range/battery , It was like $ 99,000 .

Phenomenal! That is such a refreshing thing to see. I love the simplicity and economy. Manual windows, no screen, just a phone mount. Electric propulsion is absolutely perfect for that vehicle, too. Yes I could love that trucklet with a tried and true 4 cylinder gas or diesel but EV is really much simpler than an ICE drivetrain and as such I think it complements the design ethos very well. I could definitely see that as a daily driver.

I wonder what the take rate is for the Nissan Leaf S $ 28,150 and 149 mile range .

Still too expensive. $15k is my add a Tesla to the fleet number. Tesla is way better than a leaf.

You can get close to $15k for a used Tesla if you qualify for the used EV credit.

The leaf had no battery cooling/heating. Lots of them for sale at 5000$ with dead batteries.

My worry about tesla is that musk will do something crazy and tank the company...

This is DEFINITELY a step in the right direction. Price is right. Looks like it still has too much tech, but I'm having problems figuring out what it does and doesn't have - their emphasis on the PHOOOOOONNE holder is a bit alarming "connect and go" - fuck that, how about just "go"? Range is perfectly fine, and it isn't yet another stupid double cab behemoth. The website is an over-cooked mess, hard to understand and slow loading over this janky wi-fi connection I have back here in the library.

We'll see how this plays out - I'm cautiously optimistic.

Making them cost effective to service would be good. Affordable and easily (relatively) swappable battery packs and motors would be brilliant. Nice to see they didn't make the thing massive just because, and the configurability of the thing increases usefulness for both personal and potential fleet use. I've never understood the massiveness of vehicles today as a whole, but when coupled with electric power, efficiency of size and lightness would seem to make a remarkable difference. This feels like it might be headed in the right direction.

Musk was on Bloomberg this morning, it was an entertaining interview.

I'd buy a Tesla to commute in if they were $20k or less. My wife has got 8 years left in a 100 mile a day commute.
