That guy is a hoot. I know he's deeper south but I have in-laws and coworkers from Eastern Oklahoma that are not far off.

Thoughts of no consequence:
1. It remains annoying that almost every YouTube clip seems to need a clickbait title. I don't think he "SLAMS" the reporter.
2. I agree the govmt spends more than it makes and that it shouldn't. Therefore, minimizing subsidies seems reasonable.
3. Not every company is able to start up and survive sustained losses over years largely on the basis of the force of personality of its founder/CEO as Tesla did. But also, since there were subsidies for EVs when Telsa was entering the market, its hard to say that wasn't helpful for Elon. Now that Tesla is well established, Elon arguing against subsidies could be seen as self serving in that it may hurt weaker competitors.

Yes, I don't think the definition of "slams" is what most people think it is today.

The case can definitely be made that this is to Elon's advantage now.

My hybrid has been averaging 30.7 mpg the last several months. Closer to the rated in town gas mileage. But in the first 10,000 milesit's getting a gas engine average mpg. Nothing special.

I'mworking on some projects that may require longer commutes to sites than I want to do in a TJ. I may still look for something. Or maybe an older VW TDI.

Our '96 Passat got 52 MPG on the highway, high 40s mixed. That's the good news. The bad news is that it was a VolksWagen with all that implies... ;)

What was your uptime and cost per mile ? What is sad is I really love VW's but they are typical German POS cars .

Beats the shit outta me. It had multiple electrical/electronic problems, even way back then. Undersized bearings on the timing belt (!!) tensioner (!!!). Very nice driving car, but it wasn't a Mercedes.

But it wasn't a Mercedes could apply to any Mercedes that wasn't a W 108 .

Haven't read a lot of this thread, I imagine the fire topic has come up alot. I'm a civil engineer working in land development on a few sites in in NYC and one in Paramus NJ right now and I've been dealing with the EV charger requirements a bit.

In Paramus, the police and fire department want us to not put charging stations next to one another as they are worried about one car catching all the ones next to it on fire. The site proposes 800 parking spaces so we would have to spread out 33 EV spaces (one charger for every two spaces typically) which would increase the cost a good chunk and just be a logistical pain so they're hoping to argue their way out of having to do that. Luckily for the client, those just need to be make ready and no chargers have to be installed just yet.

In NYC, they require 20% of parking spaces to be ready to go with chargers, and another 40% to be make ready and eventually need to have chargers by 2035 or something. So 60% of parking needs to eventually be EV charging. Our projects are all 900-1000 parking space garages so looking at nearly 600 EV parking spaces. You can reduce some of the spaces required by going with fast chargers (1 fast charger for every 10 level 2 chargers) but you can only reduce up to 50% of the EV spaces required. I'm not really sure the zoning department is concerned with fire as they are being progressive and getting more EV charging in the city.

Looking into it, there are apparently a good amount of parking garages in NYC denying EV vehicles from parking in them. I wonder how long it will be before one catches fire in a parking garage in a city and wipes out a whole level of cars.
