E-Bikes

I know this thread has been silent for 2.5 years, but I'd like to revive it to see if anyone has purchased an ebike since then, particularly one geared more toward road use, as opposed to a mountain bike. My situation is that I will be meeting my young granddaughter at her school and accompanying her back home fairly often. I want to do this on a bike, but the local hills prevent me from doing so on an old-school bike. You see, my knees are toast. X-rays show the left knee is 100% bone-on-bone, and the right knee is at 60%. This makes walking painful, and attempting the hills on a standard bike not something I want to try. So...ebike. Just thought a little dialog on the subject might be interesting, should anyone care to participate. So how 'bout it? Any ebike purchases in the past 2.5 years? Inquiring minds want to know...;)

Since I posted about the Lectric XP that we got for my wife (still have it, still like it) I have gotten my self a Mokwheel Basalt

It's great and the torque sensor makes for a much more "natural" riding sensation than a cadence sensor.

I've heard the torque sensors being likened to having bionic legs and that's pretty accurate.

The harder you pedal, the more assist it provides.

Hills are not a problem at all.

You should get one of those that you can push a button or turn the grip for power rather than a pedal assist. Velotric E-Bike should have really good deals at your local bike shop. Call around. My son must have built 100’s of them at his local bike shop.

Here's what I've ordered. I've been looking for a couple of weeks, and this one seems to fit the bill. Reviews are extremely positive, and owners seem to be genuinely happy with their bikes. I'm hoping to have that same reaction to it. I ordered the 24" seat and footpegs for a passenger, as well as bar-end mirrors. Bike has dual 52v batteries. Nothing "cool" about its appearance, though. Looks like a moped! :ROFLMAO:

Ah! It has a step through frame so you can wear your skirts when riding it. (y)

Only you would come up with that, my friend! :ROFLMAO:

Only the truth - why do you think my bike is a step thru? Had some clown years back pass me when I was riding to work on California 1. Honked, waved as he went by, then he saw what he was hitting on in his rear view mirror! Some slightly erratic driving ensued...

I have a Himiway big dog. looks like they don't make the big dog anymore but have other comparable models. I have 540 miles on it with no problems. I use it for turkey hunting off road so it gets abused . They make a great e-bike, it will carry 400lbs and I've gotten 60 miles out of a charge. I mounted a black tote on it and it carries my vest and a small cooler and I mounted a gun mount on the handle bars. Y'all check them out.

I'm liking the dual battery set-up of some of the Roll-Road bikes. They're claiming a range of around 150 miles, with some folks claiming 70+ miles using nothing but throttle and running the bikes all-out. Of course there are a multitude of variables, but like I said, the owners seem to be truly happy with their bikes.

I would watch the YouTube channel Freshly Charged. They have been testing personal e-vehicles for years now: scooters, e-bikes, uni-wheels, etc. Just search fo their videos on e-bikes. I have 72v, 35aH scooters that do 65mph and 80 mile range. Ask @lBasket about them.

I wouldn’t waste my time with anything under 60v and 30aH batteries. Keep in mind that the reported specs on these bikes are from testing with riders that are middle school sized men. We full-sized men don’t get the same speed or range.

Can confirm, his scooters are insanely fun and fast. They just make you laugh they speed up so quickly

I don't need, nor even desire a bike that'll do 65 mph. Hell, my diesel truck will barely do that! 30 mph will do just dandy for this old fart. ;)

I get that, but just because it can, doesn’t mean you have to. You can do 30 on a bike that has a max speed of 30 or 65. The ones with the higher speeds typically have better specs, particularly better battery cells, with loads more range.

If you hit 30+ on your ebike, you will need a good pair of riding glasses.

I briefly hit 35 on mine and couldn't see a thing due to my eyes watering.

That may help your knees. Biking is good way to strengthen your quads with minimal stress on the joint. Play with your seat height, cadence and foot position on the pedals (fore and aft but also rotation) to find what works best for you. You might find yourself able to dial back the e-assist with conditioning. I’ve been a mountain biker for 30 years and would also ride road bikes but I’m afraid of cars. I hope your route has bike paths away from traffic.

I'm picking up the ebike strictly for accompanying the young granddaughter on her trek home. She's only seven years old, and the route is about a quarter of a mile. At this stage, I'm thinking that's all I'm going to be using it for, as I have a nice bike for riding around locally and on the 30-mile-long paved trail that's near my house. I also have something like 26 vintage project bikes in the cellar, but that's a whole 'nuther thing! ;)
