I know that I'm probably kind of beating a dead horse here, but I am a bit desperate, so y'all put up with a brotha who is on the edge of desperate.
I recently posted photos of a Gobi Stealth type cargo rack that was made by someone in the region. I have not been able to find anybody able to tackle the job, so I am back to "square one." I am in Mexico, so my options are limited. The only thing I can get here is a Smittybilt cargo rack. It's available here in Mexico from this dealer.
I read conflicting reviews for the thing. Some folks say they have had good experiences. Others say that anything Smittybilt is garbage. I have a welder/metal worker here who comes with very good recommendations and who says he has installed a couple and can reinforce it. I don't know what that means, or if it is even possible.
As I have said before here, I run some real rough roads and I really need to be able to carry more cargo. My search for an XJ goes on, but due to financial considerations, I probably won't be able to get serious about that until after the first of the year. (That may be better anyway as people are recuperating from Christmas stupidity and may be more desperate to sell.)
So, does anyone feel the need to talk me out of the Smittybilt rack, or might I get away with it?
