Considering body attached cargo rack. Any thoughts?

I need to be able to carry some cargo for extended trips into the mountains. I have a receiver hitch mounted rack, but I need more. This has to go over a hard top.

Being in Mexico, my options are limited. There is an on-line store, kind of a Latin America Amazon, called Mercadolibre. There is a rack advertised there. What looks - from the photos - to be the same rack ranges in listed price from about $560usd plus shipping to nearly $1,300usd with free shipping. I think that they do this (extreme difference in pricing) to stimulate false competition.

Anyway, this looks to be my best option. I am not a metal worker so making one is out of the question. There is a incredibly good welder in my village with whom I need to speak, but I doubt that he´d do this.

The rack can be seen a this page. I'll post a couple of photos below.

I see a couple of threads here with photos of this kind of rack, but nothing helps me out. Can anybody let me know how they work out?

I have a stock bumper with the plastic ends, btw. One of the things that I am not sure of is if I´d need a different bumper, or if I'd have to remove the plastic ends.

Yes, no? Good, bad? Pros, cons? Installation hints?

Thanks!

Mine is about 10 years old. Chinesium, so some rust on mounting hardware. I haul tools, longer stuff in the basket. Skis, snowboards in the bullit. I have not taken the top off, but it can be done. I used to haul bikes on top but it requires brute strength to get them up and down.

How close are you to the border?

Would it be feasible to ship to a U.S. address and have the rack installed there?

By doing so you might be able to get a Garvin rack and have it installed before you cross back into Mexico. Better Garvin than some unknown Chinese brand from Temu or Mercado Libre.

I'm about 10 hours in. I really have no interest in driving it that far on pavement., unfortunately.
