Hi Everyone,

I have an '04 Rubicon soft top with a manual trans and have a dummy switch plug with a harness pigtail connected to it and wanted to ask if anyone has an insight on what the wire pinout is? I have read this connector could be for either the hard top wiper or automatic O/D on/off. I am looking to find the illumination wire to splice into for adding an extra switch and would like to light it similar to the factory setup.

Thank you

The orange panel lamps feed gets distributed at splice S206:

Which is located in the main harness here:

That would be the overdrive switch connector for an automatic transmission. From Section 8W (page 8W-80-37) of the 2004 Factory Service Manual:

Also, note that orange is consistently used for panel lamps throughout the harness.

Bravo Sab. I was about to post the very same question about my 2005 w/soft top, but knew this question was probably already asked and answered. Thank you. I'm adding some auxiliary lights and would like to hijack this pigtail and the connected relay to operate the lights, assuming the amperage in the relay aligns with my lights. I'm wondering if I even have the relay since I'm a manual transmission without an overdrive option. Off to research...

Update. After some quick research, it appears that there isn't a relay for this overdrive switch. It's controlled by the TCM, so says Google's AI.

I have a manual, too, and I haven't looked at the wiring diagrams, but I would expect that switch to simply connect to the PCM, which is also the TCM (I think), and just pull that pin in the PCM to ground when it's pressed. There would be no reason to use a relay. In this case, without doing further research, my guess is that AI is correct.

If you're trying to connect auxiliary lights, I think I've seen some threads stating that many TJs came wired for fog lights, even if they didn't have the fog light option. You might search on that. Perhaps it's as simple as adding a factory fog light switch, and then connecting your lights to the fog light connectors at the front. If your TJ has those connectors wired in already.

I actually have plans for installing lights using the fog light harness you mentioned, the one that is connected to the steering wheel stalk switch. However, I'm also adding some lights to the a-pillar, and my plan was to utilize the overdrive switch harness.
