DRB III Emulator in a Virtual Machine

Hello from sweden ! Long story short... I have a jeep zj 1997 that has been in the family for years and i wanted to start it up and restore it.. There has allways been an issue with immobilizer not working so my dads solution was to turn key to radio mode then remove battery... But i wanted to fix everything so i found out that PDM (Passenger door module) had a broken capicitor. Even though i bought a used PDM and now i i trying to program a new key fob so i bought a micropod 2 and followed all these steps... After 8 hours i finally got everything to work... I got contact with the PCM and could read error codes. But after abit i could not get any comminucation... so i did the solder as described in the instructions. Somehow i could see more settings but still i cant get any comminucation... I re checked my solder and i had contact on the correct places so that should not be any issues... Could it be that immobilizer is refusing the comminucation between modules? Im soon out of ideas so if anyone have any suggestions i am happy to read them! Tomorrow i will check power supply to each unit. Andy A if you see this i would like to get in contact with you to exchange ideas.

You're going to want to start a new thread in the main tech forum. This thread is a highly specialized topic about emulating the PCM with a VM.

Hello there o/ ,

First of all, thank you for providing detailed instruction about VM Way. As someone interested in having such setup , I'd be pleased if someone could help me for several questions.

1 - I don't have Micropod 2 yet, would any clone or genuine would work? ( It will probably be clone, from Aliexpress or so ) , is there any firmware downgrade or such step (apart from possible soldering issue) in order to make it work ( as I have no idea what will receive when ordered )

2 - My main concern is DRB III Enhanced version, because it covers functionality of SuperCard II , any one tried it with vehicles requiring SC II ( circa 96 I guess ) ?

3 - Is there any feature Enhanced emulator missing in comparison to original device?

I'm interested in having such setup but would really appreciate if it was a more educated purchase.

Thanks in advance . o/

Hey guys,

So I got everything ready. Got the Micropod, got the laptop, got the software.

But during the process, after connecting the MP2 to the vehicle it asks for Registration......any ideas ?
(I bought the MP2 off AliExpress)

Hello my name is Angelo, I'm italian. Now I have a xj 2.5td of the 2001. I had a wrangler but it was stolen. I need to program a new remote control (which I bought used). I have a problem with micropod2 that i buy on aliexpress. The device does not communicate with the control unit.I installed everything on an old PC with windows 7 with 1 GB of Ram, the program starts perfectly.

Do you think it could be a defective micropod? Or do you have to make the edit posted by Andy? My micropod mounts this integrated device:

Thank you in advance for any clarification and help

I didn't understand one thing: when you have to install the software you have to put a particular date on the PC? Should a date be set before a certain value

Small update I did the test with a digital multimeter.... There is continuity between pin 4 and ground. So the welding of Andy's case should not be done. I try to install the witech again and try otherwise I don't know what to do anymore. Anyone with any ideas

Good morning from Miami,

It sounds like your micro pod could be defective. I have had nothing but issues with purchases on Aliexpress.

However, I can help you with your ecm. What are you looking to do?

Thanks,

Mark

I need to program another key fob. I can definitely make the return on aliexpress and buy another micropod from some other provider (in that case where can I buy it online?). I would like to do one last test before making the return...... I would like to install the software differently. I didn't respect the fact of setting the PC date to 01/01/2017. Could this be a problem?
I would like to carry out this procedure before making the return...... if it doesn't work I immediately make the return.
I saw this procedure online..... Copy/Paste Place:

1: Make a backup copy of the partition from the hard drive included with the micropod!
2: Install HDD in laptop
3: Set date to 01/01/17 BEFORE booting from laptop
4: Boot to HDD
5: Allow windows to install drivers, etc, as needed for your laptop and reboot as needed.
6: Once all of that is done, do NOT run WiTech yet!
7: Turn OFF internet!
8: Navigate to C:\ProgramData\wiTECH\jserver\data\core\stubs
9: Install DRB Emulator stub
10: Install DRB Enhanced emulator stub
11: Install K-Line stub
12: Reboot computer
13: Set date back to current date
14: ALLOW internet access
15: Run Flexnet software updater. Do NOT update WiTech!!!
16: Flexnet will find updates for enhanced DRB and K-Line
17: Install K-Line update first
18: Install Enhanced update next.
19: Turn date back to 01/01/17!
20: Once updates and downloaded and installed, turn OFF internet and NEVER turn on again!
21: Reboot computer
22: Attach Micropod to car. When green LED turns on, turn on car ignition
23: Attach USB cable to PC and Micropod
24: When Windows is done installing drivers, etc, you should show a network connection in the tool tray with no internet access
25: Run Wi-Tech
26: Press "Launch DRB III" button in lower right hand corner
27: Accept EULA
28: DRB Emulator will launch.

I reinstalled witech with the previous ones written above..... In the end I got the same results as before: the system does not communicate with the control unit. I also wanted to point out that once I start the drb emulator (while the drb is running) if I go to open the witech again the device is locked indeed my account is blocked for the device (you can see the photos above).

I made the updates through the software in the program tray (I don't remember its name well, it's a program that finds updates of installed software.....).
I would like to understand if my micropod is defective, in this case I return it immediately, there is little time left to do it. Then buy another one (you have to figure out where)

Great write-up @AndyA! I was able to follow through and get the PCM talking. I also soldered the ground pin and tried connecting to the other devices. Initially it didn't work for me either.

However, after reading a few other forums (namely mhhauto) I read a suggestion to install not just the enhanced DRBIII emulator, but the base emulator as well.

On a whim I tried uninstalling the enhanced emulator, and installing the regular emulator. I then installed the enhanced emulator again, and tried things out.

To my pleasant surprise I can now access the cluster (MIC) , skim, and airbag controller(ACM)! I used the emulator files provided with the micropod2 I purchased. Looking back, I probably should have checked for a connection on that ground pin before soldering. I just assumed it was the issue and gave it a go. I thought I'd mention it in case someone else buys one of these units. It might save them the trouble.

Hi Guys - Got a new to me 2002 Wrangler with the all 8 issue. I am on the waiting list to rent an ERB3 emulator from Controller tech.

So I need to read the mileage from the ECM so I can program a new cluster with the proper miles.

@Wranglerfix and @AndyA (His name isn't tagging) Controller tech said the rental did not include any power train flash and are through "Chrysler's Tech Authority website and requires a separate subscription."

Do I need these flash files just to read the Odometer from the ECM?

Great forum here, looking forward to many improvements!

There is a place in the ecm for mileage. It is used mainly for warranty purposes only and will not affect the mileage on the cluster.
