Cranked up my 2003 4.0 and heard a squealing noise from the engine. It sounded like it was coming from the OPDA but then it went quiet before I could pinpoint the exact location, I have 120,000 miles on it and it runs good and I never heard this before. When I search, it is only mentioned in 2005 and 06. Do the 2003 model have the same issue?

The '03 doesn't have the '05-'06 badly designed OPDA, but it still has a shaft turning in bearings, and these old vehicles need replacement parts sometimes. So yes, it could be your OPDA. Maybe open the hood before starting it next time and see if you can catch it in the act.

What weight oil U using? I ask because the last 4.0 XJ I had I cheeped out and used 15/40 diesel oil. Screamed when I fired it up on colder days. Changed back to 5/30 and back to normal.

Cranked it up this morning no noise, drove it to work everything normal. I will just keep a look out for it. I use 5w/30 high mileage mobile 1. It was cold this morning 47f.

what is this. I think this is what was making the noise. I'm guessing cam sensor? Will it make a sqeaking noise
