I know some folks might appreciate the dash chime suddenly stopping, but I'd rather have it function! '05 LJ suddenly stopped chiming.
Key in>Key On (ignition on)>expect dash chime before cranking.
Vehicle starts just fine. Door switch also properly sets off the chime with the key left in the ignition, so I know that the chime itself has not failed. Anyone have an idea what happened here?

Since your dash chime works when the door is open with the key in the ignition, that’s a good sign that the chime itself is functional. Here are a few things you might check:

Ignition Switch: Sometimes, the ignition switch can be finicky. If it's not making a proper connection when the key is in the "On" position, it may not trigger the chime. It might be worth checking the ignition switch for wear or damage.

Fuse/Relay Issues: Check the fuses related to the dash and chime circuits. There could be a blown fuse or a failing relay. The owner's manual should have a reference for which fuse is associated with the chime.

Wiring and Connectors: Look for any loose or corroded wires and connectors in the area around the ignition switch and the chime unit. Sometimes, simply reseating a connector can solve the problem.

Body Control Module (BCM): If your Jeep has a BCM, there might be an issue with it not sending the signal to activate the chime when the ignition is on. If this is the case, some further diagnostics may be needed.

Grounds: Don’t forget to check the grounding in the wiring system. A poor ground connection can cause all sorts of erratic behavior.

The initial six or seven chimes at ignition on are a seat belt reminder.

If you are fastening your seat belt before turning on the ignition the chime won't sound.

If you aren't fastening your seat belt, the seat belt buckle is disconnected or the switch is bad. The switch should be grounded when the belt is unclipped, and disconnects when the belt is plugged in.

Have you fed the entire forum into a GPT and used it to generate this response?

Yikes. Turns out I had been buckling before cranking...
Solved!
