I'm setting up a Dana 44 for my TJ with Motive gears. Axle is from a 2002 TJ. I'm using a traclok I pulled out of an '02 Isuzu rodeo sport that had 4.10 gears on it.

The oil slinger I'm using is .0620". I added all the shims I had (.115") for a total of .177"!! I'm still pretty far off (backlash still too loose) and it seems the pinion needs to come up further. At this stage I'm wondering if I'm having a parts problem (wrong carrier, bearing/race or)??? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated in advance. Thank you!!

I looked at the gear I pulled off the carrier and it appears thicker than the gears I ordered. I"m using a Dana 44-409 motive gear set.

If these measurements apply then you need thick cut(rubicon) gears or a new carrier. A new carrier is probably cheaper
