I remember a guy running Carbon shafts a few years ago broke one at an event and Carbon got him taken care of very quickly. I assume Metal Cloak is just continuing the name and offering the same customer service they currently offer. While many are not a Cloak fan around here you likely would not be disappointed in the customer service. Metal Cloak has that to offer.

Hi
How does it differ from the other chromoly 27 spline Dana 30 axle kits already on the market?

Thats what my question was I like metalcloak stuff but I also realize they don't actually make the shafts lol... didn't know what brand to go with there's alot of them out there

The difference I have found is Revolution is one factory specific. I have been told by Rev that when they sell a product it is manufactured in one factory only, not multiple factories and packaged as the same. You won’t pay Monkey Grip prices but you can make your decision based on quality information 🇺🇸

Well that is better than not knowing where they come from thanks. I've got a 5.3ls in my jeep probably go for the discovery series then I take it pretty easy on the gas pedal don't beat on it like most do lol

You may want to consider upgrading to 30 spline shafts but that increases cost

I have the Carbon Off-road shafts in 27spline front Dana 30. Been fine for several years. They were advertised as Made in the USA and 10yr warranty IIRC.

Yeah, sorta, but not really. The notice that was put up was MC was purchasing a very specific aspect of Carbon and not the entirety of the mess. Essentially CO stopped delivering product and likely lacked the wherewithal to fulfill customer orders that had been paid for. While I don't recall or feel like finding the exact wording, it basically said they were purchasing the Carbon name and none of their liabilities or responsibilities to satisfy prior customers.

This was also after watching several customers complain about not getting large orders, large as in orders of axle housing assemblies front and rear.

The best thing about Carbon is what MC bought, the name. The rest is for shit. They sold the same import axles everyone else sells, they all came and come from the same factories in India. They made nothing themselves, any axle assembly they sold came from Currie. They denied warranty for the entire axle assembly if you broke a shaft and then ran a competitor's shaft in the housing. Anyone with a scintilla of critical thinking ability recognizes that for the bullshit it is.

What it boils down to is if MC is using the original Carbon suppliers, then you aren't buying anything special, just more commodity shafts with a special name. If they are using a different supplier, then why buy Carbon?

yea you have a point there I'll stick with revolution discovery series I appreciate everyone's input 👍

I'd really like to know where those were actually made. There are a very small handful of US forging houses that do shafts. Most require exceptionally large volumes and if you aren't placing that order quantity, they won't even talk to you since they are suppliers to the OEM. That leaves an even smaller number like Foote and Ulven. Foote was bought out and basically shut down since their customers are not getting parts from the new owner. That leaves an even smaller pool of US suppliers who do small volumes.

Towards the end a very similar thing happened. Only this time the rig was in Moab for a couple week trip, Carbon didn't have anything to send him and they were pretty quick to point out that running other than a Carbon shaft in his front axle would void his warranty. I called him on that and he then sent me their paperwork saying the same thing. I told him to buy the shaft he needed to finish his trip, get it home, keep his mouth shut about it and then let them send him new ones when they got them. There is zero reason to void a warranty over running a different brand shaft in a quality housing except to just be a dick.

Revolution shafts with the 1350 joints are/were Foote....are they not anymore?

That would be good to know. I bought mine in February 2020. They were advertised as 4140, made in USA, and I was wrong, the warranty was 15 years ( but evidently they will shaft you).

Now they can’t decide if they are 4140 or 4340.
