Can't figure out this transmission issue

I have tried finding someone who has discussed this issue in the forum before, but wasn't able to find anything.
I have a 2006 LJ that will not go into gear... at all. I have checked the shift linkage bushing, still good. The shift actuation rod under the shift handle is good to go. The shifter will stay in park position just fine, but when you go to put it in reverse, it free falls down to drive but won't select the gear. Jeep cranks and runs, no CEL (for the forst time in about 6 years) or stored codes. I also cannot manually cycle the shifter from outside the trans housing. I am at a complete loss, it's my only vehicle at the moment. Any help from the gurus would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

If I posted this in the wrong section, apologies.

Shifting the trans from outside is gonna be hard, though not impossible. When you move the handle, does the shift selector bracket move down at the transmission? If so, does it turn the shaft?

Let’s zero in on what exactly is happening.

The sift arm(?) Does not move when the shifter does. Anything else right now is tough to determine by myself.

So the shift lever on the passenger-side of the transmission is not moving (much) when the shift handle is moved? If not I'd pull the shifter handle mechanism and take a look to see if the cable is still attached and if something is obviously broken. Yes this means pulling the center console.

You need to lift up the cover at the console and you’re probably going to find the linkage cable is disconnected from the shifter or coming disconnected

I carry extra bushings with me in the glove box of my automatic

That's exactly what it was. The shift cable bushing finally gave out and the cable disconnected. I am having a hell of a time finding replacement bushings though. Know where a good source is for those?

O Reillys stocks a Dorman assortment- I was able to Use one out of the kit- it was a little snug but it didn’t affect the action and I liked starting with a good tight fit

If you need to go down there and send me pictures just send me a PM and I’ll give you my cell number and you’re welcome to bounce off of me what you see on the shelf-

It’s about $12 or so and if you FaceTime me or send images I can dial you in I believe

I’m a good ways from home or I would go out to my jeep and give you the part number

You can also use my phone number I gave you for them to look up my company account and they can find the kit that I bought this year in the system

I have a temporary fix in place, using an extra transfer case bushing... but I'll send you some pics on DM to see what we can come up with. Appreciate it, everyone.

I am also toying around with the idea of making some metal bushings to replace the synthetic ones that are sold. If I am able to get something to work, I'll let you guys know.

Awesome. Good job.

is the bushing under the console the same as the one at the other end at the transmission?
