Ford said it's based off the Ranger platform. I believe the non-offroad, less hardcore, group model is a bit narrower, just like the wider rubicon axles on the JL lineup.
That would make sense. The 2.3L engine is in the Ranger. But I would imagine the 2.7L V6 set the width of the Bronco and there will be extra room under the hood with the 2.3L I4 option.
Like I said, why not borrow from their truck lines if they can. It should make some parts for the Bronco drivetrain easier to find since they sell millions of trucks a year with similar engines and transmissions.
