Bronco vs. Wrangler

They keep making the new offroaders wider and wider.
TJ: 68.3"
JK/JL: 73.9"
Bronco: 79.3"

I've been on plenty of trails where I thought the TJ was too wide. My wife does love old Broncos so prehaps when her lease is up she'll want to check one out. By then our kids should be attending soccer games so it would be the perfect mall crawler.

This could be big in some areas. First time I took my TJ out, I will glad I picked it. Even the SXS 4 seater guys were making 3 point turns on some trails. I guess the trails will get larger too?

Beats the minivan 😜

it has IFS. I don't care if it has "17% more articulation than a stock wrangler". Stock wranglers don't go where I want to go. The decision to go with IFS is why this thing won't compete with a wrangler.

Since I own an old Jeep and haven't really paid attention to the newer Jeep offerings, I went to their went to their website and built a 2 door and 4 door Rubicon with options I could see owning that put them in similar categories as the Broncos model and package options. It seems the Bronco and Jeep have somewhat similar price structures once you factor in locking front and rear axles, and similar electrical do-dads, heated leather seats, remote starters, infotainment systems, etc.. etc.

Base models are around $29,999.999999 and somewhere around $41,000-$48,000 is what I think most people would end up spending to get enough cool stuff out of each brand in their 2 door or 4 door of choice.

Jeep's concept V8 includes and additional 2" lift and 37" tires from the factory, but for now it's vaporware like the undelivered Broncos. I could see Jeep offering a 2" lift and 35s as an option on Rubicons with some gear options just to keep up with Ford. That will mean less aftermarket work for shops and fewer takeoffs for sale on the local Jeep sites. Maybe Jeep will try to figure out a way to get more power out of their V6.

I'll still be driving my base model LJ for years to come no matter what the 2 companies come up with.

Other things like leather, touchscreens, button locations, power everything, etc aren't trilling to me.
I agree completely but this is the stuff that sells vehicles. Whoda thunk a 4 door Wrangler for soccer Moms would be a hit, but 2007 sure changed the game.

Bronco has as much history as Jeep and maybe this come back will create a bigger following than Wrangler ever had. Lord knows Ford hit all the hot buttons, they researched Wrangler owners to find out what we wanted and delivered. Right now the JL looks 20 years old. There are going to be a lot of Wranglers in Ford Used Car Lots.

History of Bronco....

New 2 door has a 100” wheelbase, seems perfect for 35s. I didn’t realize how wide it is until someone posted above.... may not fit on the KY/TN trails we run without some major penstripes

Yeah the Baja pedigree is something that gets lost on some people. Off Road racing isn't as visible as the war time evolution of the Jeep. Still its relevant. Broncos did some amazing stuff over the years, and then stopped doing them. Jeep staying in the game the whole way through. Still we are debating a vehicle that isn't tangible. Cant wait to see what comes out of this once the aftermarket gets to work. Should be good for everyone who wants to go offroading.

And Humvee: 85" From what little I know thus far, I'd think "too wide, too long, too heavy". But that's the American market for you, each new iteration is slightly larger than the last. Heck, Honda has had to introduce a new "small" model a couple of times because the previous one grew out of that market niche.

Like I said, I haven't seem much of a difference other than a $5,000-10,000 engine/suspension add on package that Jeep could tacks on as a Rubicon package too. They may even be able to do modifications to match or exceed the Ford packages before the first Bronco roles off the line. Most things you have to add on the Ford as custom, you can add on to the Jeep in their custom section, or buy in a robust aftermarket. You spend the money either way and I'm finding the prices track each other.

It's a different body shape and newer, which people will gravitate towards naturally. Jeep will simply come up with a different body style to mount to the same frame and some extra packages they'll add to their build a Jeep website. When they change, we'll probably complain about the new body style and computer stuff.

Unfortunately, you are correct. What grinds my gears is that its impossible to opt out of most of this crap, even though Jeep does a better job at allowing customer choice than most do. There is a special place in Hell for the Gov't Bureaucrat who decreed backup cameras, because that now means all vehicles have fugly touch screens ruining their dashes.

I bet the 79.3" width comes from building around the engine/drivetrain. The F150 is 79.9" wide. It wouldn't surprise me if the wheel tracks front and rear match the 69.7" of the F150. They are likely pulling a lot of the F150 frame design into it. Because why not if you have a truck lineup.

It will be interesting to see one in person.

Ford said it's based off the Ranger platform. I believe the non-offroad, less hardcore, group model is a bit narrower, just like the wider rubicon axles on the JL lineup.

I think we are being threatened down to our core base.
Jeep people are afraid Bronco will take over.
We (TJs) will be history and that's a fact.
Just look at the Millenniums.
Our generation is almost over.
Heading to the museums.

Once the millennials outlaw gasoline off road will be hiking. But on road might be too.

Bronco fans will head to the museums with us.

If I wanted to spend "that kind of money", I'd build up an old CJ or MB and do it "my way". I'm too old for large projects, I don't have the drive for them anymore. So I was looking for a late CJ, YJ, or TJ that would be "close enough", and thus ended up with my '06. But I'd be damned if I was going to spend $30K or $40K and end up with a mother %@#)%$ touchscreen! If I were to build from scratch, the only electronics in the thing would be found in the transistorized ignition module and the CB radio! LEDs don't count! ;)

You don't consider a short truck with a dana 44 solid front axle and 9" rear with a np205 transfer case and an np435 manual an ORV. Okay then, what does ORV mean?

Too big where I am. I have never thought of those as an option for off road toy. Big Broncos are better suited for a snow plow. Not fact, but my opinion
