Broken clutch pedal

Odd that you should mention this because I’m having similar problems myself it’s been driving me literally crazy it started like with the car, not starting, which ended up being a new starter and prior to that maybe two years before that we had a clutch put in a new clutch put in and then it was like I don’t know Winck 33 weeks went by and then just sporadically. The car would just not start sometimes, and then like two hours would go by and I would go and check it and if it was not the alternator I went through I mean trust me I’ve been doing with this for months and I just can’t and then today my friend took out that fuse that you’re just talking about and the rod and it started up and I used it yesterday but then of course, today I get in and nothing so I am at a loss too because I’ve never experienced this before ever and I’ve driven manuals pretty much since forever and I mean I can put I mean I can move around the clutch and one time it even started without me even pushing the clutch, so please if you hear anything advise

For all members having "broken clutch", you may have a worn clutch pin that will not hold the plastic bushing. There are solutions around but few are as permanent as a bolt on pin with at brass bushing that cradles your master cylinder eye bolt and secures it with a spring type cotter pin. You will have to remove the clutch assembly from under the dash. I recommend removing the driver's seat and putting a yoga mat as the floor is lumpy. I was seven miles off main road as I was skirting along the boundary line of the Mt Jefferson Wilderness area, at around the 5,000 ft mark. Going up a steep rocky hill my clutch pedal broke. I got on my inReach and let my wife know and told her to stand by (use texting along with sending a map showing where we were; good investment). My partner somehow got himself under the dash and "jerry-rigged" it together. i had to keep pressure on clutch all the way home going about 25 miles per hour. Took us about five hours to get home. That being said, has anyone purchased this and installed it? I got a warning "site unsecured"

 
I am the original guinea pig for the TJ bolt on kit after convincing Rodney Dickman to make me a TJ version of the Pontiac Fiero bolt on pin kit. My original plan was to take a bolt and trim it down to the pin dimensions and weld it to my clutch pedal. I first checked the net to see if someone had a pin that I could adapt as I don't have a lathe to trim down the bolt. I found Mr. Dickman's site by accident and I could picture his Fiero kit would work on my TJ with some modifications. The hardest part is removing the clutch assembly from under the dash. The driver's seat has to come out (4 bolts, 10 min.) Removing the assembly took me 20 min. (8 bolts) but putting it back on took twice as long. Did it myself without help and I am 74 yrs. , fat and with a bad back (use that yoga mat on floor!). Go to Rodney's site for more instructions. By the way, I paid full price for my kit and my only reward is helping fellow Jeepsters overcome this common weakness on TJ clutch pedals
 
So I found a fix. If your pedal isn't actually broken like mine you can get a small nylon washer that can slip over your collar on your pedal then two 1/2 inch washer and a 7/16 eclip will fix your problem. The nylon washer that fits on the collar might need to be trimmed a bit for the clutch rod to fit.

This wont for for me because my pedal is actually broken, but if your pedal is ok looks like this would be a good solution. Lot less than 2 hundred bucks

So the washers are 1/2” ID and the e-clip is 7/16”. I assume the tubing / sleeve is also 1/2” ID, but what’s the OD? That’s critical for it to fit into the clutch rod.

I looked at mine today and it appears to need some maintenance. I’d like to use a brass sleeve instead of plastic tube, but need to know the OD required. I can easily modify a hardware store brass bushing.
 
I ordered one as well. Hope it’s not too difficult to install.

It doesn't look bad other than the "usual hassle" of working under the dash. Removing the seat is a must. I see something like this, I just order it. I may not even need it right now, but when I do, the guy probably won't be making it, and if he is, I won't be able to find him. The parts situation in general for these Jeeps is ridiculous.
 
Yeah, same reason I ordered one. Without it, though, worst case may be knocking out the factory post and installing a bolt with a few nuts and washers to keep everything in place.

My main concern is it appears the entire pedal assembly has to be removed in order to knock the factory post out of the clutch arm. I have no idea how much is involved in that. Like I don't have enough projects already!
