Auxiliary Transmission Coolers

I currently have a B&M 70264 up front and was thinking of adding the derale kit with fan underneath on my LJ due to high temps after tummy tuck. Would it be a better idea to just replace the B&M with the setrab cooler instead of adding the derale?

Where is the temp sender for the gauge?

I just stumbled across this thread by accident, however, it just so happens that I'll be replacing the radiator in my TJ today or tomorrow. The PO installed a trans cooler in front of the existing radiator. Plumbing is currently going Trans > cooler and bypassing the radiator. I think with the new radiator I'll run the plumbing from Trans > radiator > cooler.

How do I know which tube from the Trans is the return line? Same for the bottom of the radiator I guess...is there an in and out? Does it matter?

Which trans?

When you look at the fittings on the side of the trans, one is a quick disconnect and the other is a flare style. The flare style is out, QD is return. For the cooler in the radiator, makes no difference.
Awesome...thank you.

This forum has been invaluable to me with this new to me TJ.

I use that one because it gives me room above it for the extruded coolers we use.
I'm going to add the Setrab you recommend soon. I'm curious to know if there a reason other than not being bolt-on that you don't use a second Setrab for power steering cooling. Thanks.

Once you fit the first one in you'll realize why a second won't work.

A second one of the same size but this one would fit easily.

I really wished I would have known about this cooler before. The dimensions are ideal for the grill. The B&M 70264 has roughly 63.25 sq in of cooling surface. The Setrab cooler here has 104.5". Plus, it looks like, due to the side tanks, it will hold considerably more fluid. I can't tell what type of cooler it is. Stacked plate?

I don't like stacked plate coolers. I base that on experience and observation. If stacked plate were as efficient as the sellers would have you believe, there are two very important places they would be used. Radiators and heater cores. Both of those need to remove lots of heat in a pretty efficient manner. Both are the same style. Both work very well.

I prefer that slimline cooler for the same reason, it is radiator style with end tanks and a core. I don't pick coolers based on how much fluid they hold when there is a choice for that.

This is helpful.

I'll plan to replace my (stacked plate) B&M when I refresh my cooling system since it will all be apart anyway. I didn't really like the idea of adding an additional derale in a 2nd location, too many hoses running all over.

Setrab Slimline series race cooler.

I don't use that other one you listed so I have no idea.

Yes, we remove the V bar to weld tabs to it to mount the cooler to and then put it back.
quick question. My 2005 sport 42rle was having some transmission issue. it was going into limp mode often. I replaced the PCM with WranglerFix and then the solenoid. Things seem to be fine now but still worry about the transmission for long drives to Lake Tahoe and the eastern sierras.
I want to run the 6 or 14 row Setrab Cooler but wondering what fittings, connectors, and hoses did you use for yours.
thanks in advance. cheers

Hose is -6 Aeroquip push lock.
Setrab adapters to -6 male on the cooler
120 -6 push lock to get out of the grill area on one side, 90 on the other.
The rest is sorta figure it out.
Key thing to remember is to figure out which is the out from the trans. The routing is as follows-
Out of trans into radiator.
Out of radiator into LOWER port on cooler
Out of higher port on cooler to return to trans.
If you go in the upper port, it creates an air lock.
