Anyone into knives?

I bought a used Victorinox just to take off the corkscrew to put on my keychain. My regular carry knife is a Spyderco Endura FRN. I also have a small blade in my Squirt PS4.

Congrats!! Its the last knife youll need to buy. I have a 31with a jekylltohyde lanyard delete in my daily rotation as well, but my heart belongs to the inkosi.

Ill be in Amarillo in a couple of weeks for the Palo Duro Challenge

There is another maker that I have a couple of pieces in my collection. As a young man, I lived on the beautiful Monterey Bay peninsula. It was my first away from home. The contrast between Oklas and central coast Cali was great. It was a magical time!

Montery Bay Knives is a relatively new custom knife maker that opened in 2017. Most of their line is made in China. That alone disqualifies them from being in my collection. However, there are 2 models that are not only made in the USA, but actually made on the peninsula.

Officially, Monterey doesnt have an animal that represents the city. That said, the sea otter is a prominent animal that can be readily seen by visiting the wharf.

The MBK SeaOtter is their small offering. Its roughly the same size as a small sebenza,

3.75in scale
3in blade
OAL 6.875in
Tumbled finish
Blade steel Magnacut
Running on washers

Im typically not a small knife guy, but i love the SeaOtter.

I’ve recently picked up two magnacut blades. I’m really liking the finish durability and edge retention…so now of course I have 2 sets of the same knife with different blades.

Lived in Salinas my entire life and never heard of them
Guess I need to pay better attention
Good looking blade

There are so many different knifes made that I go into our local knife store just to learn more. They have latterly 100's of knifes. I try to remember all of them that are American. It is so much fun to learn so much. 60 years ago I started liking Buck and today my favored is Microtech.

Depending on heat treat, they're very close to S45 with a Lil bit better corrosion resistance

Carmel Cutlery has them on the shelf!

Salinas has some fine Mexican food! I was there last Nov for veterans day parade. The lows lows and hoppers stole the show!

I seriously miss good Mexican food, this close to the Canadian border no one has any idea what good Mexican should taste like
Might be time to go visit my mother in Castroville

I lived on the edge of south Salinas from 76-90. Parents are in Pebble beach now, but I still take a cruise over there once in a while for fun 😁

Pebble beach / Carmel beach is beautiful! As a FireFighter and someone trained to be well versed in building construction, the bent cedar roofs on houses in Carmel always amazing me, no matter how many times I see them!

One year we were out there visiting, I got tickled with my wife. We were on our way to the beach and it was cloudy and drizzly, as it is many days on the central coast. About the time the sun was setting, the sky cleared up and the drizzle went away. My wife remarked, it turned out to be a pretty good sunset! I chuckled and thought, there's never a bad sunset when you're sitting on the beach

Chris Reeve was less than enthused about serrated blades. However, he did allow some to be built.

The first sebenza was produced in 1987. The first sebenza 21was produced in 2008, 21yrs later. The sebenza 25 and 31 follow the same timeline.

As indictated by the card, this knife just had a birthday.

In 1999 CRK began an annual series that ran until 2011. After a 12yr break they decided to restart that series beginning in 2023 as a collaboration with GP Knives. I was not collecting knives during the first run. I do plan to collect all of them in this series, with the exception of the Damascus blades. Due to high traffic that crashes the site and extremely limited quantities, those are all but impossible to procure. IIRC, only 10 dama blades are released and 200 plain blades in the form of large, small, right and left handed variants.

Ill just be happy with my plain blades!

Nice knife! Do use them in a hunting/fishing situation?

I have 3 CRK that I carry and use, large inkosi, large sebenza31 and umnumzaan, plus a couple of more Friday/Saturday evening dinner carries that see light use.

All of the others dont see any use.
