Anyone into knives?

Blue Carbon Fiber is the second most uncommon CRK CF scale. IIRC, only 20 sets of these were produced, and likely 3-4 sets on the same day.

This is the most recent production of a CRK with a swedge.

A swedge is produced by secondary bevel of the top side of the blade. Its primary function is to reduce the thickness of the blade near the point, making the tip better suited for piercing tasks

20 of these were released into the wild

Mrholland - Thanks for teaching me about knifes. Your knowledge is great. Would you happen to be in the knife business?

Thank you kind sir!!

In the knife business, no sir, just a collector of life's finer delights. I have however bought and sold other makers pieces to help fund this addiction.

My dad wanted a Kershaw Launch 9, but he's cheap :D

He found a 2 pack for $18 and gave me one to research if they were fake.

Really fake. Sorry

And kinda dangerous. The release isn't flush, it sticks up about .080".

Folks fake everything these days!!

The silver lining, youll figure out if that size and style will meet your needs! If yes, then buy the real real!

The used shitpaper lining is when you think its real and send it in for a warranty repair.

Most manufactures will not return your fake.

The massive red flag on theses was the price. And most likely the seller.

And the tracking history had a tale to tell 😄

This is a great subject. I read through some of it in the last couple of weeks. I have a cheap Amazon folding knife that I have had for a couple of years. I have recently been interested in a small pocket style fixed blade. Even some type of small survival knife to carry in my jeep.

I dont have any fixies, as they're called. There is one I'd considered but I'm afraid to hop onto that slippery slope.

CRK Professional Soldier. They are discontinued but can be had with some patience and searching.

Blade is approx 3.5
Handle is approx 3.75
Overall approx 7.25
PVD coated
S35 HR 58-59

Comes with kydex sheath

Prefer a real handle with scales.

This is an interesting picture. Both of these knives are Umnumzaans, both produced on the same day and both have the same blade steel.

What makes these unique, the top is an Original Pivot or OP Zaan while the bottom is a new style smaller pivot. The bottom is a special edition. Wilson Combat collaboration. The top one shares the jimping of the earlier S30 blade steel instead of the jimping of the bottom zaan.

For 2 knives that were produced on the same day, they couldnt be more different. These differences make the value of each knife more than double when offered as a set, but only because of the shared birthday.

I though Wilson Combat was a producer of gums. How does a knife get the name?

It was a collaboration between Chris Reeve Knives and Wilson Combat. Its the design on the scale that makes it WC. IIRC, it ran from 2010-2022 in limited quantities.

WC has worked with a handful of knife makers..

CRK as follows -

Umnumzaan
Sebenza 21 large and small
Sebenza 25 large, 2 different designs
Inkosi large and small

Full set would be considered 8 knives. Op zaan, new pivot zaan, both 21s, 25s and Inkosis. Few have the full set due to one of the 25s being produced in extremely low quanties. In the last several years Ive only seen 1 of the 25s in question being sold.

This large inkosi is called Spartan Helmet. Its a dealer special that was created for Rivers Edge Cutlery (REC). As I understand, this knife has more time under a laser than any other CRK. This was produced early 2023 with S45 blade steel. Approx 15 of these Inkosi in this configuration were released.

Next to it is an Okluma Zirconium (zirc) dc0. It runs on a rechargeable 14500 battery (dbl A sized). This particular light was made on my birthday!

Zirc is a highly corrosion resistant mineral that is, or can be, used for many different things. What makes it so resistant is an action known as passivation. This action occurs almost immediately at room temperature and creates a thin, dense, and stable layer of zirconium dioxide on the surface when the mineral comes into contact with water or oxygen. This oxide layer is what protects the surface from further corrosion. Its magic!

My new knife came with a story. I've been looking for a small, local manufacturing business, and discovered Drill Doctor was in town by looking on google maps. I had some time so I swung by Thursday morning to check them out. I didn't have an appointment or anything, just walked up and ask to speak to the owner to see if he might be interested in selling.

The CEO came out to meet me. It turns out they're a bit bigger of an operation that I was expecting, with Work Sharp being a much bigger brand than Drill Doctor. Valuation is way out of my price range, and they're not looking to sell anyways. 5th-generation family-owned, with succession plans for a 6th. He said they're approached weekly about selling, usually by silicon valley tech bros and the like, but I was the first to show up in person.

He gave me a tour of the facility and told me about their operations. When I saw the knives being made I wanted one. M390 blade, 1 piece magnesium handle. Seemed like a good value at $140.

It comes with an extra pivot mechanism to make it automatic, but in this state you can't carry an automatic knife concealed. Dumb. Guess I'll keep it manual.

Great story, and good on them for taking you in!! Nice looking knife! How's it feel in hand, specifically the balance?

Manual knife vs assault knife!

I have a flashlight made from mg. Its lighter than Al. As a heatsink it transfers maximum amount of heat into your hand allowing higher output at longer intervals. Its pretty amazing, even though its highly corrosive, will burn and is reactive to water!! Im a big fan of mg fire and quick to pass the nozzle to the new guy 😆 🤣
