Needed some caliper boots for my '06 TJ. Crown part #4383471 is $1.99 at Quadratec and $12.43 at Amazon....for one! Looks like Mr. Bezos is taking these tariffs seriously. Want to guess where I ordered from?

Do you expect Amazon or any business to not pass the costs of tarrifs on to you the customer?

I absolutely expect they would. But even a 145% tariff wouldn't explain the difference between $1.99 and $12.43.

This exact scenario has been happening to me for the last 7 years I’ve been buying car parts. There’s always someone marking shit up to an insane level. This isn’t new.

I have never ordered the first part that came up simply for convenience (such as a part in stock at a store, or “free” shipping via Prime). You gotta shop around like you are. It’s always been that way, at least for me.

My AutoZone fuel pump cost $150 six years ago and lasted a few months. The Delphi pump today is only $140 on RockAuto.

Some places just suck…

Back when I wrote a lot of cost proposals for many years that often included international import costs, every penny was passed on to my client. On top of every penny were also various administrative costs and percentage markups for us to facilitate the project. That is exactly how your costs can and will exceed the cost of the tariffs. You pay more depending on how much someone and how many someones along the way markup those costs.

Enjoy paying your tariffs. We will pay all of the tariffs.

Yep lots of times you can find vastly lower prices elsewhere, and sometimes Amazon is best. Shipping, like mentioned, is probably built into Amazon's pricing so they can afford to give you "free" shipping. There is a Chrome add on that is supposed to automatically check for the lowest price on anything you look at on Amazon, it worked OK for me but wasn't consistent so now I just do my own research. I also found the buying appliance parts locally can be as low or lower than online, which didn't used to be the case.

Amazon is very good at getting you stuff quick though.

There is no free shipping, nor is Amazon affording anything. All shipping costs are paid by the customer, even the hidden free shipping costs.

Sorry but F#%k Amazon. Buying from them is as bad as buying directly from the CCP, Temu or any other cut throat competitor. Bezos is in bed with the enemy. I’d rather spend more.
Sorry Chris

Amazon is an interesting one, some products operate as a "dutch auction". I got RGA's front axle shafts for $550 from their Amazon store, immediately after the price was back up to the mid $900s. If you watch some specialized products like these the price fluctuates pretty heavily.

Generally I avoid Amazon for car parts though, I've gotten too many fake timken bearings, seals, etc.

I keep items saved for later in my cart and watch the pricing notices whenever I’m in my cart. If the price dips to where I think it’s good I buy. Also have the camel^3 updates for things I really want.

Best I ever did was a $300 item for under $50. There are crazy deals to be had but if you’re in a hurry, Amazon will screw you too.

The part in question is probably under a buck cost. Tariffs only go against the cost. The pricing is because people are paying it.

Curious, Do you think Bezos would have skipped attending a Kamala inauguration?

There is no way to know, other than at the very least the prominence of billionaire donor influence historically has been less than in this administration. We certainly would not have DOGE performing it's theatrics or bribe planes.

The low level pushback against foreign manufacturing, cheap imported goods, big business money buying political power, etc is nothing new. It is all part of the lie of trickle down economics that has been dismantling the power of the post war middle class over the last 40 years. Both sides carry responsibility for this. As do the American people for buying into it against our own better interests for so long.
