I need help from experienced folks on knowing what to look for.
I found a 2005 Jeep Wrangler Sport Utility 2D (manual trans) 230k miles. The pics look good, inside and out. I can’t see any rust from the pics. It was used as a tow vehicle for a class A the past 5 years. I too have a class A and planning for my purchase to also be a tow vehicle. The price seems right at $7500.xx. The cherry on top is the Jeep comes with everything needed for Flat Towing. Tow bars, cables, etc; it is already wired for towing (lights & breaks). It also has a break away system that applies the breaks if becomes loose. Along with both hard and soft tops. Although he said never put a “breaking system” on it (for the tow).
I had a friend, who is very experienced with my make of RV and he’s towed two different Jeep Wranglers, go over the ad and conversation I’m having with the seller. He said the 2001 thru 2007 had a problem with the base frame rusting out. He stresses to find out if there is any rust underneath. I’ve asked the seller and he states there is no rust. I do not believe this vehicle was ever used off road (without crawling under the Jeep, theres no way to verify).
My question to those with experience, what do I need to ask the seller and/or look for before committing to a purchase? The Jeep is 4 1/2 hrs away and I would like to be as confident as possible before making that drive to look at it. Seller is a private seller. So far I sort of trust him but I’m not foolish. Is there a way to get an experienced TJ person to look at it for me prior to purchase?
Thoughts?
