Buying sight unseen TJ

No way would I buy it without seeing it in person and driving it first. I bought a few motorcycles on eBay-looked great in pics and were trash when I received them, very disappointed every time but once out of 5 purchases. My TJ had 129,000 miles and car fax showed only 5,000 miles in five years of ownership, two sisters had the jeep and always garaged and always towed behind an RV. So far it's been a great Jeep, but I test drove it before purchased and crawled under the vehicle. I was concerned about the death wobble (which my Jeep does not have), but looked for two years before buying. Looked at a beautiful 2016 Sahara, with all the extras, it had the death wobble and seller said no big deal only needs tires, I walked.

I might decide to buy it without seeing it. But I would not settle on a price until I was test driving it. If a deal could not be made I only wasted a Saturday morning coming home empty handed.

You have - must - know and trust the dealer you are buying from. I have 3 dealers I buy from that I will buy sight unseen and have the cars shipped to me.

I bought my LJR sight unseen, some dealership in Texas. They sent all sorts of underbody pics. They were also kind enough to bring it to a shop to have the valve cover gasket replaced and while it was there I talked to a tech. I had him check the ac, the lockers and put his finger in the frame.

About 7 years ago I bought my Tacoma (used) from a dealer 3 hours away. I called them and told them I would buy it for a set "out the door" price if, when I got there, the vehicle was as advertised and I was satisfied with it. I would suggest you do the same. Have your negotiated price set in advance, that way if you like it you won't leave frustrated because of the price. The dealer did try to stick me with extra fees but I reminded them we had a pre-negotiated out-the-door price and they agreed to keep that. I had gotten really tired of driving 1.5 or 2 hours one-way and either seeing something misrepresented (like reeking of cigarette smoke, etc.) or getting frustrated not being able to agree on a reasonable price. Good luck and keep us posted!
