Has anyone bought one of these lately? I tried to order directly from advance, they were out of stock. So I ordered from summit who had stock. Received it box not damaged, open up and inspect, the bearing comes preinstalled in the housing. The bearing has hard spots when rotating. Contact summit, they asked the part number of the bearing and offered to send me a bearing, or a refund. I requested to exchange the whole kit, instead of refund the bearing was installed with the numbers not visible. Second kit arrives bearing is junk in this one also. This bearing has hard spots but not as bad as the first, start looking at the bearing closely I was able to pull out a hard metal flake off of a ball and there is metal powder/dust all over the bearing itself. This one can read the part number ENDURO 6207C3. ENDURO is not a name brand I have ever heard of. Quick internet search shows this is an easy to get bearing, and not expensive.

I have never bought parts from advance adapters that had ball bearings only transmission adapter contained machined parts and fasteners. Have they always been using off brand bearings in the kits?

I went with the AA kit partly after tom woods rep recommended it on the phone last month. Still planning to order driveshaft from tom woods.

Summit offered to refund me $20 since they don't carry the bearing. I ordered a name brand bearing going to replace the junk bearing and run the kit.
Still disappointed that AA is using junk in their kits. They must need to use junk bearings to meet their price targets.

I could.

How is the fit of the output yoke to the splines on the shaft of the JB conversions? I still have both kits sitting here and both have a sloppy fit. I was already thinking about just sending both of them back.

I’ve got one on my counter at home. I can check the fit when I get back. That isn’t too critical though as the nut is what’s going to take up any rotational slack. Although I get it, it seems sloppy regardless of it moves loosely.

I even tried it with a made in USA Neapco yoke I have and same poor fit.

The JB is perfect, very nice snug fit. I’m going to guess the AA shaft is slightly under spec or something if two different yokes fit poorly.

I’d go with JB. The only downside is that dude takes forever to ship, so be prepared to wait around two-ish weeks. But for an ultimately better product I think it’s well worth it. The bearing in my tail housing is ultra smooth.

I've got an AA SYE that has run flawlessly for 250k miles, including a TC rebuild along the way. I'm sure the AA SYE recipe has been tweaked a few times since 2006, tho. Good thing you caught the bearing issue before install.

I'm glad I inspected it the bearings they are using are junk.

I ordered JB conversions SYE kit today, I'm just going to return the AA. The fit of the shaft splines to the yoke were so bad I'm not going to run it.

I'll add that while the ship time might be a little long, I ordered my JB SS Sye and when it came in, it sat in my shop for months before I got around to installing it. When I was putting everything together, I realised that they forgot the Hall sensor in the kit. I emailed them on the weekend, and got a reply like an hour later saying they were sorry they missed it in the box, and they'd ship one out to me the next business day.

On Monday, I got an email with a tracking #, and had my hall sensor by the end of the week.

Shipping department may be slow, but customer service after the sale was top notch.

I ordered on 8/30 and it shipped on 9/10, and I received on 9/12. So it isn’t always so great. But that’s nice.

I contacted him before I ordered to confirm had in stock. Possibly your order was delayed waiting for parts.

My kit was delivered today. It is using a Nachi bearing, bearing runs smooth and not full of trash like the AA kit bearing. The fit on the splines for yoke to shaft is correct, unlike the poor sloopy fit on the AA kit. The JB kit was packaged better, the shaft was wrapped in fish paper and in a box, the AA kit had formed cardboard made for the parts, but the shaft was just loose in the box. The casting of the tailhousing is better on the JB. It has better surface finish (less inclusions) and had less flash that had to be removed after casting. The AA housing is beefier especially around the bearing, with a significant amount of additional support compared compared to the JB.

So far I am glad I purchased the JB and returned the junk AA kit.
