Hi all,

I have a 2nd oem cigarette lighter housing that I want to wire up behind the dash to power my Wolfbox video mirror/camera. Can I just splice into the existing wires and wire directly or will this adversely limit current or voltage or some other thing I don’t want limited. Once installed it will be completely out of sight however as the WolfBox power supply has a USB outlet I will also like to add a generic cable to be used “in case”

Thanks.

The one you show must be isolated...cannot contact metal.

Use what Mac shows or buy a plastic cigarette outlet.

One issue to note with USB outlets is the amount of volts you need. Let's say you need 3 to run your equipment....many USB outlets put out 1 volt. You will need to check.

Why I installed combo 1 1/16" USB outlets. Qualcomm QC compatible...with a regular voltage lower amperage plug for cameras.

QC works with a handshake from my phone letting it know it's safe to get extra voltage. It'll rapidly charge my phone.

Powerwerx makes pods for those, too.

Just a thought, the Wolfbox hardwire kit is only $22 and eliminates the lighter plug and allows a completely hidden installation, plus gives you the option of 12 or 24 hour parking/motion detection monitoring that you can also switch off if desired. You have the same year and model TJ as mine and you will have the two power taps behind the glove box, 1 switched and 1 unswitched to connect the hard wire kit easy peasy.

One advantage to the parking monitoring that I like is when you get back in and start up the Jeep there is no delay waiting for the Wolfbox to boot up meaning you get your reverse camera right away.
