Never used them. I just slide the axle shafts in carefully. It naturally goes in when the splines align.
That being said do they make them for the Dana 30 TJ?
I don't think you're gonna be strong or reckless enough to hit the side of the tube with the axle and damage anything
Sorry those are for a JK
I think they will work. Everything I can find online says the axle shaft OD and axle tube ID are same for the TJ and JK Dana 30.
I just ordered 4 of the Crown ones from quadratec. $2 each and $6 shipping.
Also available for $4 each from Autozone.com and free home shipping which saves a few dollars if you only want two of them.
I was a little paranoid about this the first time I did it, and I can safely say you're overthinking it. But in order to make it ever so slightly easier, I have stuck a long screwdriver down the tube and then sort of pried up on it to lift the end of the axle shaft to help guide it in. But it's completely unnecessary. Just don't bang it down there like an absolute caveman. Honestly its like prom night. Just move it around until you find the opening.
Or get you a long handled brush and wipe out the inside of the tube I guess?

I don't think it's being paranoid. I wonder how many gear/bearing problems are caused by debris getting in during an axle install? None of us would chance sticking the engine oil dipstick down a rusty/dirty tube to get it into the engine. I don't see how this is any different. Any dirt or rust that gets in the gear oil can't be good.
Maybe some people have the skill to thread the needle without touching the sides of the tubes? In previous work, I've sort of tried to keep the splined end toward the top of the tube thinking it is cleaner up there but still not good. $15 to prevent getting debris inside the gears is worth it to me if it works. I will update if the guides fit!
