Does anyone see any problem with this set up? I don’t have an ability to set up a tongue weight. Just tried to get my wife to tell me when it started to go forward versus when it started to go back and just picked a happy medium. Through the wheels in the back so I didn’t get on the brake lines.

To me, it looks a little too far back on the trailer - meaning not enough tongue weight. But, the proof will be in the test drive at speed - if it sways a bunch after making a steering correction, not enough tongue weight. Be very careful until you know it does not sway a bunch. If it’s real bad, it could drag you off the road.

Agree with @NashvilleTJ, looks too far back. But it’s hard to say from here. Take it for a spin and see how it handles. I don’t know that this will help, but this is my 16’ trailer with the jeep loaded up. Pay attention to how close the centerline of the rear axle in the jeep is to the rear axle of the trailer.

I agree, looks a bit too far back. I'd start with the TJ rear wheels centered above the space between trailer axles.

Does the GC have the load leveling suspension? If so, that should help set the proper tongue weight. I tow my boat with my GC on occasion. The boat/ trailer combo is ~4,500 lbs, with roughly 60% forward of the trailer axle.

All of you confirm my suspicion. Going to move it forward. Thank you so much.

Yes, the GC has a load leveling suspension.

EDIT: moved forward and went for a drive up to 75mph. Seemed good, but the more I drive and see different situations will help me learn more. I’ll be cautious. Thank you all so much.

Here’s the new placement. It may be too far forward now. IDK. Will find out on the road being cautious, but seemed good last night up to 75mph. Will check my straps after a few miles and every time we stop. See some of you in Moab. Safe journey’s. I look forward to seeing you and especially my spotter who I will pay attention too.

If it wiggles side to side on you inch the jeep forward a bit

Drama. 30 miles south of Butte. Put on the spare. Bad valve stem. Unloaded the Jeep. Drove back to Butte. Walmart was booked at 5:20pm. Lilacs busted it out. 5 new tires. Great guys. Slows us down, but hey, my wife was awesome help.

I was pretty pissed. I told the guy i rented it from that it’s my trailer until I get my money for these five tires and the rental. He called me back and said he would also cover my hotel since we didn’t make Idaho Falls. This is totally not OK. I kind of knew when I saw the tires the day before, but I was like what the hell am I gonna do now I mean, like my entire trip is depending on this and there’s no way out? I’ve already paid for this rental. So wrong. This guy could be liable for a lot of money. He better have his shit together. I’ve already decided. I’m not taking the trailer back to him. If he wants it, he can come straight to my house and get it.

Hopefully all goes well with him.

I don’t care as long as I get my money or a trailer. He can pry it from my dying grip. Asshole to put people in that kind of risky situation.

When I texted him that the tires had cracks in the tread and one had delaminated and he needed 5 new tires he said, how much is it going to cost? I was like, dude, do you have any idea what is going on here. I’m fixing your trailer. I’m doing your maintenance. This is my trailer till I get my money. End of story and that’s very gracious.

What was the tire pressure?
when I got the trailer, the tires were 36 psi approximately and I texted the guy and I was like dude side wall says these mugs run max 80 psi. It was basically an “WTF? Dude” text. I know that I should be running higher pressures with this load. And he was like yeah that might make them roll better if you pumped them up. So I put it at

75psi

Total BS. I run trailers, just never hauled my rig.

Let’s go Brandon!
