Airing Down

Has anybody tried the four tire inflation systems with the small compressors… seems like it would be fairly cheap to build…just wondering if The small compressors would overheat too fast…

I buddy had one of those setup in his JK. It looked handy, but I run pretty light with cargo and didn’t want all that extra hose to account for.

The amount of time to fill the same four tires is the same, plus you get to carry 35 feet of tangled hose. Many have tried. Many have quickly figured out the octopus is a dumb idea

The amount of time to fill the same four tires is the same,

I have no experience with one, but I see the appeal of only having to monitor the gauge one time.
Plus, all 4 tires will be exactly the same; going up or down.

The only times I wish my 400 was faster is in the early morning hours after an all night snow run when I’m cold and tired and wanna get home. Other wise airing up is a time to chat with others in the group and share info with new friends.

I have a Viair 400P, 480C and 485C I never thought they were slow until I got the dual ARB.

And Yorks and Powertank blow that away.

Another option, if you don't have A/C is to use the factory A/C pump with an inline tool oiler before and separator after. Not as good as the York but way faster than 12 volt pumps. Not to mention a wrecking yard factory A/C pump, fittings, hose, and pressure switch are cheap!

Try some difficult terrain then. If you're getting through areas with street pressure, then they aren't difficult areas.
Hey, he has been getting in the water since the 1960s and has never needed to swim because he can always touch the bottom. As matter of fact he was just in the water for a very long time in a very cool pool that he waded in as a kid and can still stand on the bottom. Screw your swimming and stuff, there is no deep water and its unneeded. :)

I find that hard to believe since I’ve had three rigs on 33’s and one on 35’s. Not once did the VIAIR 88p take a 33x12.5r15 from 10psi to 26 in less than 3 1/2 minutes. My VIAIR 400p takes a 35x12.5r15 from 10psi to 25 in about 2 min 25 se and those two compressors have very different ratings.

I’ve got both those compressors, so why don’t I just do a test.

I've done it countless times. 33's on 15 and. 35's on 17 probably have a similar air volume. Its' not like I'm trying to sell you a 88P, I even said I'm moving to an ARB to go faster.

I tried two tires at a time and no surprise the compressor needed to run exactly twice the time to raise the pressure the same amount.

More experience?
Anyone on this forum do Baja back when the road ended at San Quintin?
My first time was back 1969 in VW bug.
I started off-roading back in the mid sixty's with my dad who drove a two wheel drive pickup all over the Mojave desert.
If I do seriously rough off roading I break out my dirt bike.
Yeah I am that guy, the senior citizen riding a 510cc Two stroke.

Big bore two stroke! The old “coffee can” we used to call them, in reference to the size of the piston. Great desert bike. Husky? I rode a CR500 for years. If I was to get a new bike 300 two stroke KTM looks like the perfect setup.

Here's the numbers I previously timed for a few fill scenarios using my Jeep. The goal was to determine the usefulness of adding a tank.

Particulars:
ARB dual compressor
Viair 2.5 gallon tank
Viair air chuck with gauge used for filling
ARB quick deflator used for deflating
Starting at 8 psi to 25 psi
35 x 12.5 x 15 Mickey Thompson Baja Boss's
15 x 9 Trail Ready Beadlocks
DR - Driver Rear
DF - Driver Front
PF - Passenger Front
PR - Passenger Rear

Test one - filling the tank

It took 1:36.03 for the compressor to switch off, gauge in jeep said 170 psi, compressor is rated to 150 psi and gauge in jeep was always right on when my old 200 psi viair 480C shut off at 200 psi.

Test two - All valve caps removed and no tank

1:28.16 - DR tire fill
0:12.19 - Time between DR to DF tire
1:27.72 - DF tire fill
0:21.02 - DF to PF tire (phone app switched on me too)
1:30.61 - PF tire fill
0:13.65 - PF to PR tire
1:27.26 - PR tire fill

6:41.65 - Total time

Test three - All valve caps removed and starting with full tank
1:03.26 - DR tire fill
0:11.24 - Time between DR to DF tire
1:30.65 - DF tire fill
0:15.61 - DF to PF tire (phone app switched on me too)
1:26.76 - PF tire fill
0:09.53 - PF to PR tire
1:27.90 - PR tire fill

6:05.38 - Total time

Test 4 - Removed and installed all valve caps with full tank

0:09.30 - Remove DR cap
00:56.04 - DR tire fill
0:21.12 - Install DR cap move and remove DF cap
1:18.62 - DF tire fill
0:25.50 - Install DF cap move and remove PF cap
1:20.04 - PF tire fill
0:21.36 - Install PF cap move and remove PR cap
1:19.11 - PR tire fill
0:12.16 - Install PR cap

6:23.29 - Total time

Test 5 - Removed and installed all valve caps with no tank

0:10.55 - Remove DR cap
01:29.64 - DR tire fill
0:19.01 - Install DR cap move and remove DF cap
1:32.47 - DF tire fill
0:23.86 - Install DF cap move and remove PF cap
1:35.06 - PF tire fill
0:23.70 - Install PF cap move and remove PR cap
1:34.84 - PR tire fill
0:09.01 - Install PR cap

7:38.17 - Total time

Notes on results: for test 5 the compressor would shut off between tires, for all the other tests the compressor ran the entire time.
