Nothing, something, depends on tolerance stacking and how that plays out. We work to perfectly center the saddle on the rotor. That way when my machinist misses by a couple thou, the caliper saddle is a couple thou off, and someone tosses the dust shield, the rotor still doesn't drag on the saddle or abutment clips.
Same is true for edge of the brake pad lining up with the rotor. I use a set of OEM pads to figure out where the saddle has to be from centerline to just set the edge of the pad even with the edge of the rotor. I do installs all the time and that alignment varies about 1/8". Some are even, some are slightly inboard, some are outboard. Doesn't hurt anything for any of those but I wish they would all hold tighter tolerances.
