Sahara interior color code?

Middle pic has three streaks. They are from bottom to top: 4976 in Sure Coat, 5020 Sure Coat, 4976 in color coat. Both the other pics are 4976 color coat. Bizzare how different they are from color to sure coat. I almost wonder if the dude was doing something wrong. Might email you he main rep to ask. The paint guy seemed surprised too, double checked everything, and couldn't explain. I should throw a streak of 15173 on that panel too just for reference next time I pull it.

When looking at this I’m beginning to wonder if 4976 is the correct code but years of dust and grime are making the interior parts seem darker?

I had ordered new door panels, they came in on Sunday and when I put them next to a piece I had pulled out to install speakers, they are definitely a bit lighter. I will see if I can get a pic up today. I also ordered SEM Color Coat in:
  • 4976 Saddle
  • 15173 Camel
  • 5020 Med. Camel (I know its not my color, just doing it for the people)
  • 4608 Agate
  • 15013 Landau Black
We will soon have all the answers... Also, I ordered the custom match color ones from 66 Auto Color online. Order Sunday and they shipped Monday. Super fast if you end up wanting to get the same

Quick update. Here are some pics of old panels to new. The rest of the paint should be here in the next week or so. Will post comparisons of the paint in relation to old and new one I have them all. Stay tuned

Not really a paint code post, but still kinda on topic; I picked up a rear seat from a maybe 2000(?) Sahara the other day for my headrest project. Dude also had a spare. I bought the OEM one off him since it looked in better shape, but I noted the two were a little different. The spare (unknown year) had the same "fuzz" fabric that is on the bottom all over the back. The other had tan fabric like the other parts of the seat. When I got it home, I compared it to mine. There new to me one has slightly lighter tan fabric clearly not from fading, and the little feet on the bottom are literal screws with pads as opposed to the larger diameter threaded rod and pads. The feet are not compatible/swappable. The green looks slightly darker too, but that could be that mine is faded a bit, not sure.

I had to call SEM customer service and they called me back with a list of stores that could do it. It was not a big list. Dude said people came from hours away to get SEM paint mixed by him.

Since this is a post about Sahara interior colors, I will post this as well.

Ok, so what I have found for the cloth seat covers for the early Saharas:

The original Moss Green Trailcloth (C5044) is "no longer available for purchase". There is a link to a "crossover" (substitute) color which gives you the exact same color code and name, and with a lead time of 81 days. I called and spoke to customer service, and they said they are pretty sure it is no longer available and that there is no direct crossover, and I should request several other color sample swatches and see if I can get a close match. Link.

The original Saddle Trailcloth (D6031) is also "no longer available for purchase". However, there is a valid link to a crossover color, and this does show availability of 17 yards in stock and ready to ship. The crossover color code is C60414. Link.

Edit: Here are some links to a few other colors that may match the moss green trailcloth:

Weathermax 80 Moss
Weathermax FR Moss
Sunbrella Forest Green 54
Lindy Spruce Extra Durable

@MossGreen98!, can you share from where did you order the new panels? Thanks.

What you've (now obviously) found is that in 1999-2002 there was a color change to the interior of the Sahara models from "Saddle" to "Camel". It was then changed again in 2003-2006 to "Light Khaki". For that first color update all interior colors were slightly darkened. Literally everything from the seats, carpet, dash panels, roll bar covers, etc. The difference is subtle and if I'm not looking at them next to each other in sunlight its hard to detect a difference. The 2003+ difference however is another story as that one is way more stark in comparison.

Same here in the DFW area. After hitting 2 different stores that SEM listed on their site I found that none of them mixed the color. But customer service was able to point me to one and only one here that could do it.

I had my driver's seat redone a few years back. The upholstery guy said there was none left nation wide in the data base (green color), but he took that as a challenge. It took him a few days of making actual phone calls to different places to find what he said was the last of it in the country lol. Maybe I bought the last? He gave me what was left over which wasn't much. I plan to have the Ford headrests I am adding to my rear seat recovered with it to match. I also have some ratty used seats I got for cheap that I could maybe salvage some material from.

I called all over too, and I was given the definitive "none left and none expected" from everywhere I called-11 places, and 3 of them called other places they thought might have some and called me back to let me down easy. Too bad, really, cause it lasted a long time and stood up to some abuse. Just now have my first split in the driver's seat, and the passenger seat still looks good. The rear seat has spent most of it's life in the basement so it looks brand new. Would be cool to take a passenger seat and remove the cover and maybe modify it to fit on a driver's seat.

So I would like to add to this thread with some results. Not my results, but some well documented ones nonetheless.

I'm sure some of you are familiar with Redneck Garage. He's a charismatic guy that, while having a chaotic way of doing things, seems to know his stuff (his garage gives me anxiety lol). He restores a TJ from the ground up and by the end of it all, it looks beautiful. He restores the interior to the Camel (tan) color that came on the 99-02 models using SEM Color Coat Med. Camel Tan (5020).

I've compiled a list of videos documenting what paints he used to restore not just the tan colors, but the agate colors as well. I've never seen a TJ factory new, but I would bet that his results are pretty close to what new would look like.

This video he discusses which color paints and brands he uses. Here he mentions SEM Color Coat Med. Camel Tan (5020), Colorbond LVP Agate, and Colorbond Satin Clear (NOT gloss clear). He paints the center air vents and they turn out perfect in both color and sheen.

Skip to 6:00 for paint details. This video he touches a little more on the SEM paint and proper prep. You can see Med. Camel Tan on the label of the SEM can. He smears a little bit on a faded dash piece and after it's finished drying, it looks pretty close.

This video he paints the steering wheel and components, and the multifunction stalks. This is the first time he mentions using and adhesion promoter, which is important if you're painting vinyl or plastic. He specifically uses Colorbond Clear Adhesion Promoter, then hits the rest with the Colorbond LVP Agate, and the actual black pieces with SEM black, finishing it all off with Colorbond Satin Clear. He does something that I had considered doing few years ago, and that is to hit the multifunction stalks with the satin clear coat to prevent fading and the lettering rubbing off. I would like to do this to my cruise control buttons and my door locks.

Skip to 2:15 for paint details. This is where he begins to actually paint the dash pieces. Using Colorbond Adhesion Promoter, SEM Med. Camel Tan, and Colorbond Satin Clear to finish the tan pieces off. He then goes on to the radio bezel and hits it with the adhesion promoter, Colorbond LVP Agate, and the satin clear coat. The results look phenomenal, and especially on the dash vents.

Skip to 3:55 for results. This video he reinstalls the dash into the Jeep. It's not all put together, but you can see the results of his work and it looks very good. Especially the steering wheel.

Skip to 2:20 for a brief look at his painted door panels. I assume he used the same process on these as he did the rest of the dash. If you skip to 5:30 you can see he also paints his sun visors tan.

This is the video after he installed some new carpet (Seatz I believe?). He goes through and restores the center console from a horribly neglected state and it comes out looking brand new, and matching the dashboard perfectly. Colorbond Adhesion Promoter, SEM Med. Camel Tan, and Colorbond Satin Clear. He also hits the airbag switch cover with some satin clear to freshen it up. As a side note, I don't think he has any idea what "shmegma" actually means lol.

I haven't found any finished results shots of the interior, so here are a couple of videos that seem to indirectly have a couple brief shots of what the inside looks like. Looks awesome IMO.

I hope this helps for anyone really wanting to tackle this project!

OK, so I decided to contact SEM....

If you look at their site it says:

So wheels got to turning....and I sent them an email

I provided my VIN and trim code and lo and behold.......

I placed a call to the local rep (he gave me his number in another email) and he's mixing me 2 cans in aerosol and having them shipped to a store here in my city to pick up tomorrow. It'll be a little more than what you can buy the can straight from them for, but damn worth it if it matches!!!!

So for suture reference, if you're TRIM code is M5KG your interior tan code is Med. Camel 5020 from SEM and they can make it for you locally in aerosol form!

Pics of how this plays out will follow
I am looking for the color camel 5020 but is not for sale in the Netherlands unfortunately ! Does any body now how i could get some cans?

Old thread I know but...

Gonna do the plastics inside my 2000 Sahara. Seems the consensus is that SEM 15173 is the best match.

Questions:

1. How many cans did y'all need?
2. How necessary is a final clear coat?

Thanks!
