I switched out a bad brake booster. During the process I broke the brake light switch. There’s hardly any room between the seat and the pedals so I had to basically replace the switch with one hand. Replacing the switch turned out to be more of a PITA than replacing the booster itself!!

I decided to drop my gas tank and skid to clean things out. Ouch, it's not going well. The front 3 bolts holding the skid on had to be cut. When carefully lowering the tank/skid combo, I snapped the fuel outlet pipe off the fuel pump. Obviously the plastic gas tank has no rust, but I'm replacing the skid. I vacuumed out at least 3 cups of gravel/dirt and the rust was pretty bad. I bit the bullet and ordered a new skid, along with the new fuel pump, and straps.

Any suggestions on ways to preserve the new skid? I'm thinking I'd add another coat of paint on top of the factory finish.

Every time I run into something like this, my wife just says, the PO must have had a "good old time" with this jeep. At least the frame and tub are solid, not perfect but solid.

I just replaced my gas tank skid plate last week. I sprayed and coated both the inside and outside with Rust-Oleum bed liner spray, I've had very good results with that in the past.

those front three bolts you mentioned snapped off, I came up with a cool little trick to replace them with carriage bolts.

Normally you can't fit your finger between the frame and the bottom of the tub because it's too tight. I took a magnetic pickup tool, broke it off then bent it into a 90 degree angle.

then I put the bolts on the end of the magnet, fish it through between the frame and the tub and then turn it so it drops right down into the hole.

I also replace the strainers on my fuel pump taking the pump out of the tank which resulted in some problems which I just overcame yesterday.

I also replace my back brake lines and the sway bar bushings and the tracking bar bushings while the gas tank was out.

I did the front seat bar bushings today.

Thanks for the tips. For the bolts, I plan to raise the tub off the frame an inch or two so I can vacuum out some of the gravel that sitting on top of the frame cross member.

Finished off painting my other ammo box, which I use to store the 3lt of Oil ,spare tools and a torch and anything else I can fit in there for roadtrip...cuz you just never know !! 😁
I kept the sticker on the lid when I painted everything as its part of the boxes history, plus it says explosives 💥 lol

I took her to the shop to figure out the noise in the drivetrain. Turns out its bearings in the transmission. Now I'm shopping for an AX15 to replace the NV3550 that shat the bed.
Why do you consider the AX15 to be better then the NV3550? Just askin' I don't have an opinion but am curious.

I've been researching quite a bit since this issue showed up. Looks like the life expectancy of the NV3550 is generally shorter than the AX15. Plug my previous Jeeps all had Aisin Warner transmissions and I've never had one fail. All with more miles than this one has. Some of it can be chalked up to the PO but a lot of it has to fall on the model of tranny installed.

Plus this was the era where Mercedes owned Chrysler and a lot of MB vehicles from that era had transmission problems as well. Don't know that it's related but there is a correlation.

My light bar that I bought to use as a kayak holder showed up today. I have to say, I was surprised the bar wasn't damaged in the shipping. I did check and had 2 sets of bolts so I was able to put it together and install it, but I did contact the company to ask if there is possibly anything missing. It didn't have a parts list so I don't know if more came with it or not. I figure they can send me anything that may be missing.

It isn't quite tall enough so where one would mount lights, I'm going to have hubby make an extension bar to mount in those. That way it should hold the kayak above the middle bow of the soft top.

We still need to finish the hitch "T" pole, but when we do and I can load the kayak I will of course share. LOL
