What have you 3D printed for your TJ?

Completely novice question here.

My wife is into Doll house miniatures.

What is a good entry level inexpensive printer for her to do furniture, stairs, appliances on??

Keep in mind im am technology stupid and southern, so please keep the answers simple with links and pictures 🤣 🤣

Just had another thought on this. I know little about them but a lot of scale model people use SLA resin printers for small detailed items. Depending on the scale of the doll house items and detail level desired, resin printing might produce better results than FDM filament printers. That said, I suspect resin printers cost more.

Probably not, but depends on what she plans on doing. And yes, they are not cheap and the cheap one's tend not to do so well.
I bought a $700 scanner and regret the purchase 100%. As far as I'm concerned, it's useless. I've only ever managed to get a scan one time, and that felt like it was pure luck. It just doesn't "see" whatever I put in front of it. I even tried the expensive spray they sell to help "see" objects, and it didn't help.

Just a thought, they do have PLA Wood filaments, might be useful in printing wood-look furniture without the need for paint.

The other question that needs to be asked for @John Cooper is are the files she'd print readily available or would she have to be designing them?

If she wants to design them and doesn't know CAD of some sort and doesn't really want to learn it then you'd be buying a paper weight.

That is a good question, and one i have no freaking clue, God this is worse than JEEP building. 🤣 🤣 🤣

Ok let's rethink this hole thing. I am just a lowly early 80's college drop out.

She is the smart one but doesn't know CAD.

I think some of the files would be available, just don't know if most of them would be.

Hmm maybe cheaper just to buy them or build from wood.

I don't know your wife or how things work but if she's like most wives that I read about on here then hear me out.

If you get her a printer and she enjoys using it and learned to design her own stuff then she would be preoccupied with that and leave you alone which could be worth its weight in gold.

She could also turn it into a business opportunity if she sold her stuff.

I see this as the same as buying a woman a gun. If she isn't the one that does the work and determines what she wants, what works for her then it's probably not worth the investment.

It's a possibility, but she's the type that probably would never sell her stuff.

The other problem that has already been brought up is "since she does go on rides with us, I have to help with her dollhouse stuff"

The only upside i can see is getting a printer, printing all kinds of Ducks and selling them at the local JK,JL, JT events.............  🤷‍♂️

I told you I'm just a "wild eyed southern boy"

Raised on a farm, owned a poultry farm, drove a semi and turned wrenches on just about everything.

Computers are my downfall,

Well then it comes down to if the existing stuff is enough to justify the expense.

Here's some of the things I found with one search. This stuff can be printed without much involvement, especially if you can use an app on a phoooooonne. Can also be done using a computer but I don't think it's as easy IMO.

Get an entry level Voxelab or Ender to get your feet wet. Then you can figure out what direction you want to go. I have a Voxelab that I paid $150 for. Is it a {insert high end 3d printer here}? Nope, not even close. So far, its done everything that I need. I'll probably outgrow it some day, but that day isn't today.
