Hey yall!
Jeep Specs
2000
I6 4L
Sahara
I noticed a few weeks ago my jeep started to rev high on RPM before shifting and if i wasn't careful it would shift hard. Im not the most mechanically inclined so i took her to a shop. Found out its the Transmission and i know these can be quite the replacement. Im going to be getting a quote tomorrow (05DEC25) on cost and the specific issue, possibly a full blown replacement.

My question to the old heads here is: If its a worst case replacement is that a good investment into my Jeep? to keep her going.
Additionally is anyone aware of common Tranny issues this might be and if there is good replacements out there, or am i cooked?
Also any advice would be great thanks!
No pics so enjoy my under-filled dash

First, this isn’t a JK forum. No ducks allowed.

Second, I’d get a second opinion on the high revs and hard shifting.

Trans shop will tell you that you need a rebuild, guaranteed. Whether or not you do remains to be seen. If it needs rebuilt, i would 100% rebuild it vs putting in a used unit. You basically have 3 options: pay the shop to rebuild it, watch my videos and realize how easy it is to do yourself, or fly me & my wife out to Guam and I'll rebuild it for you.

Great idea!
Im going to a shop to rebuild it because I lack the time to do it personally, you think a rebuild will be better than getting even a remanufactured? Why is that?

oh i was thinking you'd be putting in a used unit. Is a re-man that much cheaper than rebuilding yours? I don't have any experience with remans so I can't offer anything fact-based to help you there.

The shop is going to get back to me on the possibility of a remanufactured, I am being qouted 4k for the rebuild job which feels pretty steep

Anything reman these days scares me, I'll say that much!

Really?
That surprises me since it would be rebuilt by a reputable company with a warranty usually. What's your opinion on doing a shop rebuild?

I'm only saying this because it seems that even remanufactured stuff these days is suffering greatly from quality control issues. Even with a warranty, you have to ask yourself if you want to swap a transmission out multiple times.

If you're buying the reman from a reputable company (make sure you do your research first) that has an iron-clad warranty, I say give it a try. However, if you can find a shop (which I suspect is going to be hard in Guam) with a transmission guy who really knows his stuff and stands buy his work, I'd go that route.

I have no experience with reman transmissions but some of these reman engines (among other things) these days aren't what they used to be. Everything in the world has gone to crap, reman parts aren't exempt from that, unfortunately.

Just be sure to do your research first.

I appreciate that, thank you for all the advice!
