04 LJK Repair, Redo, Recycle - The 3 R's of a First Build

You gunna be ready to hit some trails at Reiter or Walker towards the end of the year or after the 1st of the year?

The Jeep is ready!! if I can find the time is another question. I would love to get out on snow or dirt tho. I coach youths during winter season so it’s tough for me to do much else.

Well once I get my Jeep back up I'll be posting in the run thread section... Hope we can meet up for some wheeling.

These are my three favorite tools of this project:
#1.The m18 bandsaw has been so good for all the brackets. I hate using cut off disks so this greatly reduces the amount of dust I have to make.

#2. The Icon rechargeable magnetic light. This has been game changer for underbody welding.

#3. Ace hardware gardening kneeling pad. Those of us without a lift spend days on the concrete floor, i couldn’t do this job without a knee pad.

The SWAG setup and portaband are on my christmas list to myself this year.

The portaband is like my favorite tool right now, used it again this weekend for the resi mount. I freaking hate using the cutoff wheel anymore. To cut my fender wells through the 3/16 steel armor I used a plug in sawzall. I will try any tool over cutoff wheel.

Any tips on buying that swag stand? I was looking at the pro model for the 2929-20. Probably pay the $20 to have it painted. The leveling feet for $40 seems a bit excessive but looking at McMaster I probably can't buy them for much less.

Hoops up front are so much easier than towers. Interesting bump stop placement. Any issues with clearance?

What’s funny is after I did the rear coilovers I looked at the front and I’m like wait do the cans clear at full articulation because that looks like the exact spot the shock body wants to go. I had to go back to my thread and read. It sounds like the coilovers being nearly vertical is likely why it doesn’t swing that far in:

What was great is I got that full kit from a co-worker for a good deal so I don’t know any of the costs. I also got the pull cable but I haven’t set it up I just use a Velcro band on the trigger. The table isn’t all that great, like it’s not accurate enough for me to treat it like a real square cut. I drag it all over the garage as an assembly. For me it doesn’t replace a cut off saw which I use for square cuts it just replaces grinder cuts.

I think it'd be a handy setup for things like gussets or slight trimming where my cold cut saw is too big or not able to do it. It's not always worth the effort to get out the plasma for a simple cut either.

This is exactly how I use it. I should say the reason I hate cutoff wheel is the dirt and debris and sparks. My garage isn’t a dedicated work area I have all kinds of hobby crap in there and I hate steel dust getting everywhere

The problem with that for me, and for my existing lights is the plastic gets trashed from weld spatter. I’m getting better about weld spatter but my Icon light has lots of defects in lense now since it needs to be fairly close to illuminate the puddle

What weld hood do you have? Before, I would need good light with my cheap old Lincoln hood. I switched to a miller clearlight 4x hood and it was a world of difference.

This I know, I had a crap helmet then I got an Optrel Crystal 2.0. It was quite literally night and day.

I have been enjoying my small band saw.

I finally got a test drive on some trails post tuned COs, hit up Walker Valley for a quick afternoon. We slow wheeled up and around and played on some wet muddy rocks. the main difference is now I dont ever bottom out in the rear dropping down anything. It used to be if i didnt fully droop out before i dropped off something i would hit the hard bumps in the rear. That could be now i have the full 6” of UT instead of like 4". Finally as we headed back at night, i got to run the severely potholed road, with tires at 8 psi and I was able to absolutely blitz down the road at 40 mph. It was awesome skipping across the tops of the potholes. It was really cool, it felt like how I used to drive my Tacoma that had fox DSCs on it. So that was fun, even at that speed it felt very controlled. Stoked to take it on a full day and play on obstacles more. I got zero pictures except a muddy jeep. Have i mentioned how i hate the mud?

New TOOL ALERT: I also got the new Predator 11500 inverter genny for if the power goes out.

Wow just caught up to where you are at on your rear frame, you’re killing it! You will love the COs over the Currie springs. My curries sagged out something terrible after a few years.
