What have you 3D printed for your TJ?

Why am I getting so much crap for that 🤣 I also have a beater with 37 year old decrepit plastic!!

Well then, I read that and instantly thought about Pam Anderson for the first time in a long time. I guess that's what decrepit old beater plastic looks like to me. :sneaky:

How important is the multi color you think?

I'd say it depends on the primary use case. Most of my 3D printing is likely stuff that multi-color isn't necessary on. Little custom brackets, repair parts that aren't cosmetic and wouldn't be seen. If you're likely to print a lot of stuff with a cosmetic aspect that would benefit from it, then getting it at the same time I think saves over adding it on later. Hopefully some users here that have it or have experience with it will share opinions.

That is what my use case would look like too, brackets and little plastic utility odds and ends. So that is good

I'd agree with all that. The more important consideration is what materials you want to print with (if it's for automotive parts, you're going to want PETG at a minimum, but likely more) - so if it's "A1 w/AMS" vs P1S (w/o the AMS) I would lean toward the P1S to maintain that flexibility (I don't think that one comes with a hardened nozzle, so plan on that being an added expense someday if you get into exotic filaments).

Do they have a good first printer

Yeah, they're as close to an appliance as you can get in 3d printing. Auto calibration, etc. I am thinking about getting my 10yro an A1 Mini.

What is the AMS? Car parts are a big one, is the hardened nozzle expensive on its own?

Have an A1 w AMS, can't imagine being without it. P1S is really great price, but they are blowing out for the P2S coming soon. Still a solid machine. My other is a Qidi Plus 4 for the bigger parts or more fun filaments. Both get used equally though for projects.

There are sooooo many things ready available to print even without designing your own files so nothing it be intimidated about as you learn. Once you take the time to learn vs just clicking "print" it opens up so many possibilities.

Multicolor is something you don't know how much you'll use until you do then you never want to go back. If nothing else than to have multiples of the same color so if one spool runs out it will switch over and keep printing makes it worth it.

Grab a printer, some filament, and maybe a super tack plate and a smooth plate and you will be set for a bit.

And ask questions or research if you get frustrated. Whatever you would run into someone else has had before...much like Jeeps.

It is worth mentioning that if you don't buy the multi-color support you can still print in more than one color, it's just more tedious as you'd need to use the slicing software (what generates the instructions for the printer) to pause the print so you can unload and load in something new.

Personally, I rarely use it unless I am making something for my wife or props (such as for a holiday party). Granted it is nice to have 4-16 filaments just always loaded.

Seems like half my prints are multicolored.

I also like having options ready so I can print at anytime and not have to go set up the printer first.

Plus as mentioned above it’ll move to the new roll when one runs out if you have another one ready.

Anybody have the newer AMS with built in dryer?

I have considered adding the dry box to see if it makes any difference. It’s rather dry in Arizona and I question how well it would work. Also curious who has experience with one. If it made a difference I would probably invest in printing a dry box to work with the MMU3.

I've been eyeballing the AMS HT unit on and off since it came out. With the amount of desiccant I've got stashed in my original AMS, not entirely sure I could justify the AMS2.

I likely can’t justify it other than I’m printing more and more stuff that’s supposed to be dried and I’m not doing anything special. And 4 more spots would be nice for the capacity.
