Has anyone actually swapped an OM606 into a TJ?

I see a few videos on youtube of TJs with the beastly motor, but overall..... Not much else. I don't see any build threads anywhere. I have found adapter plates, and some info on putting a rear sump on one, but overall its all pretty barren on exact info. I'm a sucker for a diesel in my off road vehicles, and being as I'm just wrapping up my Samurai diesel swap, i'm considering it. I've quite enjoyed the end product of the other diesel swaps I've done, maybe if my 4.0 craps the bed it would be a good time to do it.

Anyway, if someone has an OM606 in their TJ I'd be interested to hear about it.

Different, but I have seen some videos on swapping a Kubota engine. I thought it could be a cool concept to put one of those in an old flat fender since the jeepster man sells the 'jeep in a crate' now.

I had no idea those were a thing! Thats cool as hell!

I've seen the Kubota, the om616, om617, 4bt and a bunch of the VW TDI engines swapped in, but not the om606 for some reason. There is a JK (i think at least) on youtube that got one swapped in and it seems like it was comparable to the TDI swaps I've done in the past. I'm debating on just doing it. it would be cool to have a straight 6 diesel in a TJ. The TDI swaps seem like they're well supported but you're really pushing them hard to get 250 hp, the om606 will do that suuper easy and with a mechanical pump. Its not a boat anchor like the 6bt or 4bt, adapters are available from reputable suppliers... the rest is expected fab work. Motor mounts, intercooler, fuel lines, coolant lines, oil pan/driveshaft/hood/everything clearance, and the surprises in the accessory drive... Not a terrible swap to do IMO. It just surprises me its not more common and that makes me wonder why.

I dunno. The 617A has "the name", but according to my sources, there's nothing wrong with a 606. I know the 617 is a ROYAL pain to swap into a TJ, dunno about a 606.

Seeing that I'm too stubborn about dailying my Lj an Om606 would be a great engine! I'd love to chase Horsepower with the jeep 4.0 but I drive too much (72 miles a day) to be putting 25 bucks worth of gas....everyday!
Imagine getting like 23Mpg on big Ole tires and still be able to do a burnout 😁
That's what I need !!!
Edit,I'm seriously thinking about the Om606 swap,I'd need to figure out the passing inspection thing here in TX...
