Speedo correction options for 2006 TJ 6-speed with 35’s and 3.07 gears?

Hey all. I purchased this TJ for my teenager for to work on together. I KNOW how hated these gears are for 35’s and how slow it supposedly is; however, the 4.0 liter seems to do fine. I see there are some different speedo gears I can throw in but nothing for this combination. Can I put one that’s close or does it just not mesh teeth if you do that? I verified today the 3.07 gears by wrapping axle in a printed measuring tape and counting it. It is indeed 3.07. It’s a pavement princess for us. Can I do anything to make the speed closer to realistic? I know I could do a rear end swap, or axel swap that has different gears. What other options are there if any?

I ran with 4.10s and 35s for a short while. It was not fine. 3.07s and 35s must be horrible.

Install 5.13 gears into your current axles.

With it being a pavement queen is there any benefit with trying to find a Dana44 with 4.56 or larger? I don’t know what a re-gear would cost me

Anything with greater than 4.10s will be a non-OEM gear install and IMO you're taking a gamble. Unless you find someone giving them away, you're going to be paying a large portion of a front/rear regear.

You need the right speedo gear to get an accurate speedometer and odometer reading. It doesn’t look like one exists for the 3.07 with 35’s combination. You’d need 3.55 or better gears. 4.88 or 5.13 for a regear with the 6-speed would work.

I thought the 06’s had a digital speedo and you needed to purchase an electronic device to adjust the speedometer. Or is that just for the Rubicon models? I have 6sp rubicon and use the speedohealer, it has worked well.

It's just a Rubicon 241 thing unless the 231 has a SYE that uses a similar style tone ring and no gear.
The speedohealer will work on any TJ, it's just alot more expensive than the gears.

Blaine helped put gearing into perspective for us recently.

On a mountain bike, it makes little sense to start from a stand still or climb an incline in a higher than appropriate gear because the leverage is not in favor of the gear set. Intuitively, we don’t typically make that mistake because it strains our body and the chain/sprockets.

It’s a similar concept here. The priority should be to get your gearing correct.

Put in the closest speedo gear and just drive a little slower than what the speedo reads or get smaller tires.

Regear to 513 and everything about driving the Jeep will be less of a struggle. Nothing about 307s pushing 35s is good for the engine, transmission, u joints....

I'd budget $500 labor per axle, you can find a side job mechanic for that, looks like $600 on the far low end for the gears and install kit.

If you are just concerned about having an accurate speedo, there are GPS speedos and there's even speedo apps that may help prevent phone usage while driving paired with a phone mount.

Leave whatever speedo gear is in it and get a speedo healer.
