Complain about your daily driver

That's the bad part about a 4-wheeler around here. Unless you have land or know someone who does, you really can't ride anywhere. SXS can be street legal here under 55 mph, so maybe ATVs have some room there now, or soon.

It's really bad where I live, when I was a teenager it was really common for people to ride illegally on the street or through private land and neighborhoods. It got to the point where I'd have my dirtbike on a trailer going to a friend's house who had land, and people would follow me and yell at me thinking I was going out to terrorize their neighborhood or ride in the sand pits, so people in this area are hyper sensitive to anyone riding an ATV or bike. Meanwhile during a snowstorm if I have a plow on my Fourtrax I can pretty much go wherever I want because people assume I'm plowing driveways in the neighborhood.

Love both of those. I've owned a few Honda 400ex, one with a big bore, a little Yamaha Blaster, and a YZ250. There is nowhere legal in my area to ride now, and combined with a bad back, the slow 300 Fourtrax is perfect for just light trail riding and plowing the driveway now.

The Raptor, my fault, almost gave me a permanent bad back. Thankfully I had a good chest protector that allowed me to still be able to walk.

One of my cousins has an all blue Banshee with a "big jug" kit, I think it's a 450 now. She's quick, and quite peaky. That's the only machine that I've been able to run over myself while still riding it. I slipped with my left leg and and went under the back tire for a second. I had a burnout style black mark on my calf for a week.

I've got a shortened swingarm on mine, widened and pushed forward front arms, Elka's all the way around, Eric Gorr ported jugs that were on a banshee that won the national hillclimb and heads that required 110 race gas before I swapped the domes back due to lack of availability for race fuel. Will wheelie in all 6 gears but it sits in storage as the kids aren't old enough to legally ride quads on the trails here so we got dirtbikes instead.

I can't remember all the stuff about my cousins bike. I know it drinks a high octane race gas. He bought it new in the mid-late '90s and his dad wrecked it on the street pretty bad soon after. I know it has an extended swingarm and the big jug/bore top end. It can be a bitch to start, but its fun when she's running. A friend of mine had a Honda 450R that I think was faster, but there something about that Banshee that just feels on edge. Maybe it's that high RPM 2-stroke scream.

Talking about that reminded me that a neighbor had a Yamaha Blaster when I was a kid, if you can remember those. I always wanted one, but my grandpaw said no, you'll kill yourself, or something to that effect, so he got me a 4x4 Suzuki QuadRunner with a balloon style tires and it would float. There wasn't a creek around that I didn't ride through.

Neighbor had a Blaster with a big bore kit. A tree turned his rear axle into a candy cane at one point.

I had a Blaster, blue and gray, definitely not as clean as that one. Those Suzukis are bulletproof.

Speaking about complaining about daily drivers, I love my 2019 WK2, but man is it eye opening seeing the lack of forum support for a "regular" vehicle. Previously I have owned older Jeeps (several XJs and now this '98 TJ) as well as older BMW sedans as daily drivers. This forum has been a wealth of DIY knowledge for the TJ, and the BMW community has some pretty crazy DIYers including people who can remote code things in the car's ECM to add or remove certain features. The WK2 support on other forums is pretty lacking. I see several members on those other forums giving inaccurate information regarding service (like don't change the transmission fluid it will ruin the transmission), or straight up telling people to just "go to dealer" for certain questions. 🤣🤦‍♂️

That's one of my favorites, right up there with don't use synthetic oils. My working theory is there is a transmission mechanic cabal out there actively promoting that people shouldn't service their transmissions. I had a guy tell me that after having a transmission rebuilt, the shop told him to not service it. I responded with "and that doesn't throw any red flags for you?" Deer in headlights.

Here's a question that just popped into my head, are other countries having similar issues with modern vehicles, or is this more of a problem with vehicles in emission and tech-laden countries like the USA?

Probably not the same in other countries.

BTW just left the local Nissan dealer parts counter, he said they have three vehicles waiting on new turbos and one replacement engine going in.

What happened to Nissan and when? My limited experience (90s Nissans) they seemed like fine, reliable vehicles, but I've heard nothing good about the recent years.

The worst drivetrain known to man in every vehicle for decades doesn't help. That 2.5 and CVT is horrid

The Japanese thing where they have to pull their low mileage engines out and sell them to the US is weird.

That's largely due to the vehicle tax and inspection structure. Unless something has changed over the last decade, the tax rate on vehicles in Japan essentially increases with each model year i.e. older vehicles are taxed at a higher rate, which makes keeping older vehicles on the road more expensive, so they scrap them and sell over seas. I remember reading an article probably 15 years ago about some guy who had an old Supra or Skyline in Tokyo, and it said just to keep the car stored and road legal he was spending something like $20,000 USD per year.
