Setrab 53-10748 vs Setrab dual pass

What failed on the Derale unit? The cooler itself, or a fan perhaps?

Hello.

After less than 2 years of normal use, the nut and washer securing the fan had come off, which caused damage to the fins and melted part of the fan’s interior.

I have contacted Derale and they said it”s out of warranty, and just sent me the replacement part number for the fan and radiator that cost almost the same of whole kit!!. Worst customer service ever!!

Regards

Mariano

That’s unfortunate. Thank you for your quick response!

Not for nothing but how does Derale know that you or anyone else didn't remove the fan for reasons unknown and then forget to tighten it properly when it was reinstalled? And before you get your panties all up in a bunch, I sell stuff to folks. I've had folks who live in the rust belt want to know if the calipers they bought 8 years ago that are now flaky piles of rusty poo have any kind of a warranty. I get folks at least once a month chip a brake pad by trying to pry it in with a screwdriver. The chip is always the same, and the reason is always the same, happened in shipping. Dude, I can see all the stuff you're doing in the background of the picture. Fine, in the interest of not being as much of a dick as I usually am, send me a pic so I can replace the damaged pad.

I don't want one, I want the whole set. Sorry, you get one. Are they all matched sets so I'm not going to have a pull? You want a pad or not? I'll take a pad.

Regardless of whether or not this is your fault, I promise you there is a long line of folks ahead of you that forced them to lay out a warranty that was a good balance of duration and cost.

I know I’m out of warranty and know that they can”t know if I modified it or not.
I was not asking for a free replacement or warranty exception, I just asked where to buy the damaged fan (damaged probably because they did’nt use threadlocker or proper torque) and they just told me “just buy a complete new unit”…
That’s bad customer service, no doubt about it!

Yes and no. You already figured out that the cost of the individual parts is almost as much as a new one so why not just buy the new one and have new to swap back in?

Parts in a kit are always cheaper than the sum of the individual parts, that's how it works.

Got a gent trying to by just the reinforcement bracket out of the hydro assist kit. Oh, I might need the cover plate. Maybe build me an invoice with the cover plate and the misalignment spacers.

Dude, by the time I add all that up, it is going to cost the same as the bracket kit. I don't want the draglink clamp. Okay fine, buy the kit and I'll remove the clamp. That's not fair. That is right, it isn't and neither is trying to get me to break up a kit and sell you pieces that wind up being the same price as the kit. Just buy the kit and sell off the clamp or keep it as a spare, same money either way.

By the time I build a custom kit, it is faster to just open one up and steal the clamp out of it and send the rest.

FYI, I'm not sticking up for Derale, I'm just explaining that poor service is based on perception.

So, if I understand your way of thinking correctly… if I buy a new car and after 2 years of use, a door comes loose, falls off, and gets damaged… do you think it’s fair that if I write to the brand explaining what happened and asking for help on where to buy a new door, their response would be: “the car is no longer under warranty, here’s the link to buy an entirely new body at the same proce you paid for the whole car”?

Better yet, take the new price of the car you bought and then purchase ALL the parts individually to build another one. Still wanna buy pieces?
The sum of individual parts in a kit is always higher than the kit cost. Like it or not, good service or not, that's how it works.

Alright, I understand your point of view. In my case, I completely disagree. Anyway, thanks for sharing.

Now, let’s go back to the Setrab dual pass oil cooler.

You are welcome to disagree. What you can't do is change how it works.

Not a fan. I'm doing one. I don't like the routing issues I'm having to solve. I won't be doing another one. And before you disagree, just be aware we have dramatically different standards. Your install will suit your sensibilities just fine.

I just finished installing the Dual Pass Setrab oil cooler.
Thanks to @mrblaine for the steel fitting!!

I decided to keep the Derale oil cooler on the back as well (just the cooler, without the failed fan).
My routing is: TRANSMISSION → OEM COOLER → DERALE COOLER (rear) → SETRAB DUAL PASS COOLER → TRANSMISSION.

My ARB bumper and Warn PowerPlant winch don’t help much with airflow to the grille.
I haven’t tested it extensively yet, but temperatures have dropped by about 20–30°F.
