Where to mount air compressor?

Yea the charcoal canister and purge valve. On the '02+ it frees up a lot of space with it moved to the rear.

So then for those with the canister on the drivers side fender, why not consider mounting the compressor inside the right rear fender where the canister is on the 02+ TJ's? It would be nice and out of the way of mud and grime as well.

Routing wiring is the issue then. I used the MORE engine mount. The wiring to the battery is short so I didn't have to extend it.

Thats not too difficult, just upscale the wires to 8 ga. But the engine mount is also a good option

Not too hard. I like the engine bay mount to keep the compressor warm and dry. The rear area would be good, if you still had the rear inner fenders to protect it. On mine, when I extended the wiring I kept blowing fuses. I upsized the wiring and did proper connections on the extensions. As soon as I went back to the original wiring harness I didn't have the same issues.

I like my Viairs they work well but speed is not their strong suit.

But how fast do you really need? Most people shoot the shit while airing up anyway.

Yeah, whether it takes two minutes or eight minutes doesn’t matter to me. What matters is having the air volume to reseat a broken bead.

That shouldn't be an issue. Once you get a decent seal you'll have plenty of capability to seat the bead.

I run the Viair 400P (or C, can't' recall), which is the 100% duty cycle model. But I have no idea how long it takes to fill the tires as I usually air up with a CO2 tank. I'm also running 40's, so it does take a while, and would take a good bit longer than the same for 35's.

The tank makes no significant positive difference in filling tires, in fact it could slow it down just a bit. As soon as the pump kicks in, not only are you getting the tire up to pressure, but you also have to get the tank back up to pressure at the same time. I run the small tank just to reduce the cycling of the pump when I run the lockers.

interesting! How many large tire fillings can you get from a CO2 bottle and what size bottle do I have to find a spot for?

Never mind: I found that a p10 power tank can fill my 35’s 32 times. Now all I have to do is learn about a power tank.😊

Further edit: Never mind. $600 or more for this fancy tank? No thanks. Now back to thinking about mounting the $200 compressor.😳😊

Well, then there’s also the old lighter fluid and a match method! Probably not good for the tire, but it sure is fun! Especially on the Fourth of July.😊

With the 10 pound tank, I can fill my four 40's from 8ish to 25ish three times (meaning 12 tires). Not enough left in the tank at that point to do another complete round of four - if I recall correctly, about enough to fill one or two more tires.

32 tires? I find that hard to believe, but it depends on what pressures at which you start and end.

Yeah, they are not cheap. And for me, I have two fully outfitted 10 lb tanks. I carry one in the trailer to easily swap into the rig after three rounds. I also carry a fully outfitted 20lb tank in the trailer. It does get expensive.

Mac, do you have two ganged together just for more volume or is there a different reason?

Volume, speed, yes. Mostly because I could. Not necessarily because I should.
