Dogless envy intensifies. That would be really cool to have

I don't yet have a need for a drawer. But to accommodate my 100-lb lab, I'd probably just cut out a piece of plywood with some scrap screwed to the bottom to fit it over the drawer. Then top it with 3" of memory foam and some carpet.

Kidding, of course... my dog's favorite spot is a stretch of cold tile off the kitchen. And he actively seeks out puddles in the woods to lay in. He doesn't GAF.

Two questions.

Have we figured out if it fits with the rear seat in the LJ?

In the JLU will it be able to fit with the rear seat upright and usable?

Yes in the JLU, JKU, Bronco and Grenadier it fits with the rear seat upright and usable. The very first photo in this thread shows the tray installed in my JKU and the rear seat is in place.

I can't tell you how much I wish my foot wasn't in a cast right now, not only so I could bring the LJ seat up from the basement to the garage to test the fit with the slide tray, but mostly just to get back to a normal life without crutches or a cane .

I bet a local sheet metal shop could make a tray for much less than $300.

I wouldn't take that bet.

Here's how it might go - I checked the price of a piece of 14-gauge cold-rolled steel sheet large enough to make the parts for the tray and slide bracket assembly on OnlineMetals.com and their price was $83.19. Hopefully a sheet metal shop would have a that large a piece of 14-gauge on hand but if not, the shipping from Online Metals to me (Delaware) is $64.72. Then you'd have your local sales tax, you can figure that based on your state but for me it would be zero because Delaware doesn't have sales tax. Then you have to get the slides, 24" full-extension, locking (in and out) slides with 200-lb. rating will probably cost you $60 per pair. Without the shipping on the steel we're totaling at about $164, so more than half way to the MORryde offer price. Then you've got some hardware to bolt the slides, brackets and tray together, the MORryde product uses stainless so let's call that $10 but it's probably less so we're at $174, call it $170. Now you've got to pay the sheet metal shop for the fabrication effort, and assuming they have to do the engineering as well because you don't have engineering drawings, and there's a bit of welding on the corners of the tray and accurate drilling of the holes in the tray and brackets for the slides and you're probably at 2-3 hours shop labor, let's call it 3 because you don't have engineering drawings and they'll have to figure out the details. Sheet metal shops labor rates range from $50 to $150 per hour so we'll go on the cheap and and say 3 hours at $50 per so that's $150; now were at $320 total and we haven't power coated anything yet (add at least $100? at a local powder coat shop because there are three pieces and the tray is large) so we're over $400 (assuming you don't have to pay shipping on the metal or the slides and not counting sales tax on anything).

MORryde's economies of scale in buying steel, laser-cutting and CNC bending the parts and their large automated powder coat line enable them to make the offer of $299.99 with no shipping and you know you'll get a high quality MORryde product.

I think you guys know I fabricate almost everything for my Jeeps but if I needed a tray I would take the MORryde offer.

BTW I've got two of the trays here right now and while I don't plan to use them in my Jeeps or Grenadier I do plan to do some further product development with them, I've got some ideas for add-ons that maybe MORryde would be interested in (shown below with the Grenadier/Bronco mounting brackets).

The front to back dimension is all inclusive - includes the brackets.

My recollection from building drawers is that the front-to-back measurement is about 24 inches. I have a tailgate table, so that reduced the space to about 22 inches. But I could easily be off by an inch; I had to build smaller, because as you get just a few inches higher up, the rearward lean of the back seat takes up some space.

Left to right it’s just about 34.75”, with the carpet still in.

The primary competition would be Tuffy’s similar product at $649. I think Morryde could easily scoop up most of Tuffy’s market share at less than half of the price.

For those of you asking about the backseat on top: I am about 6’-1” and my head touches the soft top sitting in the back. The Tuffy drawer adds over 4” of height, so you’d be limited to hauling midgets or small children with that setup.

Closed so I will call tomorrow, I am not clear do I order the glides too from Morride or source through granger as example. This is going to work awesome in winter to have full depth access with out having to unzip the rear window or climb in…. Not as flexible as I used to. E.
