What have you 3D printed for your TJ?

anyone thought of making pods for 5.25" speakers so they sit on the dash/a-pillar corners? I know Select Increments makes one for 4" speakers but was curious of one for 5.25" speakers.

I mean something like this: https://www.extremeterrain.com/versa-pods-8717.html but that fits 5.25

I very much wanted to get some of these, but the thought of someone slashing my top and just ripping these off the dash in less than 30 seconds gives me nightmares. hahaha

Like @chili_pepper mentioned, those 5.25 pods that tuck into the original 4x6 location does REALLY make an improvement. Granted ... not as much as them directly aimed at your face with a versa-pod would. I modified Chase's original designs just a smidge for my purposes, but overall it's a good setup.

And also, I saw a modified version of this on Thingiverse that can handle a 6.5" (with some dremel work) ... but that seemed like a little too much work for me, but I admire this guy's ingenuity.

Some have messed around with mounting just some tweeters on the dash in a component system. I think the files are somewhere on the running list of 3D printed parts, and I remember reading that's made a difference for some.

Quite like this one as well. ASA-CF is comparable in look and feel, maybe a slightly more matte finish to the part. And much like ABS-GF, it seems more dimensionally stable than non fiber parts. Other than removing the supports from the counterbored holes, I did nothing to either part before bonding. The parts snapped together perfectly in a dry fit test. I'm definitely interested in using it for some other projects.

Did you see my DM?

You messed around with annealing at all? I've been helping a buddy produce some "dash savers" for 90s/00s Chevy trucks. A simple little piece that screws in and helps hold the aging plastic dash in place, and hopefully stop it from cracking at its weakest point. He's had one person tell him that the part already cracked, and he's been using ABS, but he's switched over to ABS-GF since I won't shut up about it.

I've seen you can anneal in salt, boil it, or just stick it in the oven... and I've heard the fibers help to retain shape better in the annealing process.

We haven't taken that step yet, and might never need to for this part in particular since it's not really load bearing ... just curious if you have.

Edit: @chili_pepper, annealing might be able to help strengthen layer lines on your shift bezel side quest, now that I'm thinking about it. :ROFLMAO:

I haven't gone any farther than thinking about it, which I have (quite a bit).

So far, I'm not sure anything I've done would benefit greatly from it as many are lightweight or non-structural. But it is a consideration, though as soon as you heat up the part, warp and shrinkage like to crash the party. I've been trying to work with the layering in my designs, doing more bonding of parts in order to get the correct "graining" for a particular need, but the ease of doing this dissipates a bit when moving away from ABS and ASA (these are so easy to bond).

It has been considered, but I think I can get away without it, and I think some form of ABS or ASA would be the best choice for this one. In the absence of a 3D scanner for getting a start on it, my biggest hurdle at the moment is measuring and modeling the thing. 🤓

Somewhat OT, I ran across this while on Bambu Lab's website yesterday, a feature of the new H2D, and I was struck with a bit of irony. For those of you over the age of 50 and with some kind of experience in drafting, design or engineering, you will likely recognize this for what it is, a glorified Cartesian coordinate pen plotter. I guess what's old is new again, eh? :D

You mean "signature forging device"?! I've had many plotters and vinyl cutters, and have wanted a laser. But looking at the laser attachments for the H2D, I really don't want my 3D printer to have that capability. Would definitely prefer a separate laser.

At the entry price, it's not much more than a larger format X1C with some updated tech and two heads (a feature not to be underestimated)...and that's not a bad thing. If I was buying today and knew what I've learned to this point, would I buy it over an X1C? I might but only for the two heads and larger build volume. I think where they're going with it is pretty cool, but I don't really have a need for many of the features.

I'm pretty happy with the X1C/AMS as is, though I am considering the addition of one of these to the setup...

For a plotter or vinyl cutter using that tech, I think I'd want large format (roll fed with substantial width).

I had a Roland 30" wide vinyl printer/cutter and a laminator. But when it died, I just started using a trade-only printer for any business needs, and they ship overnight anywhere for $10. I miss having it for quick prints, but I don't miss buying the ink, materials, and paying an employee to run it. lol

The dual heads on the H2D and the larger bed size are definitely the star of the show. Right now I've got an Elegoo Neptune 4 Plus which can print 320 x 320 x 385mm and the new Elegoo Centauri Carbon for enclosed CoreXY stuff. Both, together, cost me $600. The CC doesn't have an AMS option currently, but they're promising one soon. For $299 with a hardened steel nozzle, I'm incredibly impressed.

But when people ask me what printer they should buy, I say Bambu P1S and upgrade the nozzle. Bambu makes a very reliable printer. But me? I enjoy the struggle. lol

Ordered this last week as I had some shop cash to burn. Bambu filament swatches. Pretty small but now I know what I’m ordering.

I wouldn't have considered it beforehand, but BL had some deal last month where they threw those in free if the order was over a certain amount. I was purchasing 7kg of PETG-HF for a project and they showed up with the spools. Kind of nice to have them now that I do, gives you a much better idea of actual hue as well as color density (typically not an issue with BL filaments).

I got one in the box with my A1. I got a little confused when @Apparition said he bought one. I didn't know about the promotion and thought it was just a way for Bambu to market their filament.

I got a mouse kit with my X1C, I assume they toss things in the orders at random.

I didn’t know about the promotion either.

If I recall correctly, it was something to the effect of "orders over so much include a free gift". Now typically I'm of the mindset that you get fuckall for free in this world, so just figured it would be free and shit, Turns out I was wrong as it's actually useful. And to your point, probably not a bad idea on their part to potentially increase filament sales.

I struggled a bit about a year ago trying to find a decent, high solids ABS in yellow. If I'd had these samples it likely would have saved me a bit of money and time. As well, I've now got two partial rolls of ABS in less than desirable versions of yellow that I can't get rid of quickly enough.
