What do you enjoy about getting old?

I've had kids over the last few years, so I don't have an option to sleep anymore. Do I need to mention my kids turn into Tiggers right about 7am no matter what.

You're preaching to the choir, that's for sure.

Even if I could take an afternoon nap (which I'd love to), I always avoid it knowing that someone will wake me up and that will piss me off.

7 AM is trigger time for us as well. The moment we walk out the door of the bedroom it starts!

One of the things that I've enjoyed about being older is being a grandfather, or Pop-Pop, as the girls have so named me. It's something I always knew I'd enjoy, but I had absolutely no idea as to the extent I would relish that position in life. Truly one of the best things in my life. :)

And if you really wanted you could throw on the Santa outfit and probably pull it off!

You know, as long as you don't get your beard caught in the drill ;)

That's a part self-employed life that I've enjoyed for the last 10 years. I don't think I've used an alarm to wake me up in at least 6-7 years, but I'm also an early riser naturally. Of course, I've had kids over the last few years, so I don't have an option to sleep anymore. Do I need to mention my kids turn into Tiggers right about 7am no matter what.

Kids are God's little alarm clocks for parents !

I love smooth jazz and classical music.

The music is something that has surprised me as I've aged, my taste has mellowed some. I listen to a broad range of stuff, Pantera to Bach, but jazz has always been hated until recently when I heard some tolerable jazz. It was weird. I checked my temperature to make sure it was still above room.

Me too , It certainly gives you a different prospective about things. They treat me with kindness and respect . That is not the norm in life !

I've been really big into jazz for the past 10 years or so. Ever since I discovered it I can't get enough. I like all sorts, but my favorite is smooth jazz. I've got quite the playlist going on Apple Music.

I'm eclectic with music though. The only genres I can't bring myself to enjoy are death metal, rap, and modern pop music.

One of the things I've enjoyed about getting older is witnessing the changes in myself with regard to how I generally view things. A lot of the things/issues that were once so important to me no longer are, or have at least diminished in intensity to the point where I know longer fret about them. Conversely, other things have become so much more important to me. Politics and Faith are two that immediately come to mind. I've always been somewhat political, and I've had a deep sense of Faith since my early teens, but both have intensified as I've progressed in life, and I rather enjoy that.

Oh, and the absolute best thing about getting old? It's knowing that you've been blessed with the opportunity to do so! Sadly, there are so many who do not get the chance to experience it, for one reason or another. I think about that often, and am grateful for the time I've been given. That's the best part of growing old, me thinks...;)

What do I enjoy about getting old.
I retired at age 59 with a good Govt. pension and my Wife did the same thing.
I have no need to wear a watch anymore.
No more random drug testing and no more watching what I say as not to offend the management.
I have time to do odd jobs for the neighbor Lady and get paid well for it.
My Wife and I can just look at each other and say, lets go for a drive in the forest today.
Making crop circles with my riding mower. And then smoke some pot and take a nap.

I like the aches and pains the most. It reminds me I’m still alive.

Watching any kind of wildlife is fun for me. It always has been.

Seeing you kids turn into good adults. And of course grandkids.

Oh, and experience and wisdom…supposedly.

Meanwhile, my 12 year old daughter can sleep until noon and act as if she's still tired.

Whenever I think about criticizing her for that, I remember I used to do the same thing when I was her age.
My Dad used to give me grief about staying up late and sleeping till noon. Then he retired and started staying up late watching movies and sleeping till noon.

The realisation that I can no longer heal up over a weekend was a hard pill to swallow, and therefore have to think things through more than I used to. Breaking bones seem to hurt more than they used to, besides taking longer to heal. I remember cutting previous casts off after two weeks, whereas I just got out of one that I had to wear for the full six. Still sporting a brace. I still hate pain killers as much as I used to, and still won’t take them, for the same reason. I don’t like la la land, or not being in control.
So having to slow down a little bit in my mid 60’s.
My grandsons think I’m absolutely hilarious. When one showed me his skinned elbow, and I told him I’ve had bigger scratches on my eyeball. Or, when the oldest one (12) got a pocket knife for Christmas and promptly cut his finger with it less than an hour later. My daughter (their mother) gave me a look as I was the guilty Santa. I casually mentioned that it stopped when it hit the bone, and therefore it couldn’t be that bad. From Dad jokes to bad jokes, they think I’m funny, and entertaining. Deer lease, duck hunting, fishing, dirtbikes and the Jeep is all time well spent with them. They hear me when I yell at other people for driving like idiots. I think it’s a part of the learning process, and they’ll be better drivers for it. I bought an early 90’s model truck hood and made a sled out of it, so both could ride on it while I pulled it with my side by side. Constant laughter. Skimming water holes, and bouncing over ant beds, it’s all good until it wasn’t. You can’t stare at your phone if you have to hang on with both hands. I hate that crap.
