What did you do to your TJ today?

When I use my compression gauge I do let the air run out of the hose before packing it up, so maybe you do need to

I have some terrible news for you. I hope you're sitting down.

All this time you've been doing that completely wrong. To bleed the compression gauge when you're done you need to hang it upside down, otherwise the air will be trapped in the hose. Sorry to call you out like that on a public forum, but it had to be done.

Knew I was an amateur but damn... That's bad. I suck

Buying Chinese rubbers from the dollar store… begs the question, how many kids do you have? 😁
I only buy name brand, so no kids......that I know of.

Just curious, since you always joke about the flat Florida, what's your planned use case for this upgrade?

2 things:

1) Parking the thing at my house. The complete lack of a "real" 1st gear coupled with a ridiculously high idle means I have to shift into 4 low, then scribble across the concrete - this will only get worse when I...

2) ...get the front lunchbox installed. Want a way to essentially turn it off but stay in low range. It'll help on trails - even flat ones!

Makes total sense if you're planning a lunchbox. I have one and I can see where that makes a lot of sense.

Not sure I get #1 you mention there. What's the cause of the high idle? What is the parking situation where you're scrubbing across concrete?

Cause of the high idle is simply modern engine control design - the darn thing still moves too fast even in 1st low range due to the high (to me) idle speed. I'm an old fart, real engines idle at 500 RPM or less. Parking situation is my driveway - a typical suburban slab of concrete. Does it hurt anything to scribble across it? Not really, other than minor increased tire wear - but its highly annoying. The lack of 2 Low is one of the TJ's biggest lacks as far as I'm concerned.

I wasn't going to fool with it as it was very pricey, but at $115, it became a no brainer. But it'll have to wait until after I get the front end rebuilt this fall when the weather cools off. Its hot as balls here now, and will stay that way until mid October.

Gotcha - Mine has run a high idle at ~1500 RPM - which I hope to fix with new bearings in the TB. But that would only get down to the typical 750RPM. So wasn't sure if you had something running it high like I did.

I'm not familiar with parking on concrete, other than parking structures, but I have many neighbors with concrete driveways around me. Didn't know it was a unique parking experience... Learning something new.

I've toyed with 2Low too - since it isn't an expensive upgrade for the parts. Are you thinking to pull the case or try in-Jeep install?

I did my SYE sitting under the Jeep but it was raised up on 4x jackstands where I could comfortable sit underneath behind the TC. Having done it that way (sitting), I would drop the case if I couldn't sit, no way I'd want to crack the case on my back...

I dunno - it probably isn't that much more to just remove the thing after you've already disconnected the driveshafts and dropped the skid. (???) I'm getting too old to lay under the Jeep when I just don't have to - I'm big and have long arms which equals a PITA at times.

A buddy showed me it comes in handy if you use a trailer too… slow down to crawl speed when backing into tight places

I love your Jeep more than my wife. 🤫 I'm sure I have more invested in her though. Sad. Even trade and you take over payments?
p.s. Has @John Cooper taken you through his favorite mud "puddle"?

Good one:)… thank you I love it also… as much as I have invested in my wife.. I’ll hang onto her…🤪… he hasn’t yet… but he’s got a winch now so maybe he can pull hisself out instead of me doing it!!!
