4.8 Swap LJ

It's always one more thing... Or at least it always seems like that...

Damn, you have to pull the intake to get to the oil pressure sensor? But this means you DO have oil pressure? Which was a concern correct?

Don't have a IR heat gun? I've found them to be very handy with everything I've done with my swaps.

We all LOVE a long story...

COOL.... & Great News... Now to get it up to 80 MPH...

Well, aftermarket oil pressure sensor is stupid and body is way larger than hex so you have to get a wrench below it. No room behind intake. Oil pressure is reading good.

I have an IR gun, my hand feel I’m confident is within 20deg but will dig it out.

Not super long, quick and dirty is I’m stupid and didn’t realize it came with gauges.

I plan to start actually driving it next week. Probably try to throw it on my buddy’s lift and double check routing of cables/etc.

Wow, you'd think they'd make it easier to remove.. But I feel your pain..

I always seems to burn a finger when I try this..

We all make those little mistakes.. I can't/don't want to try to list all mine.

Cool. Hope it all goes well for you.

So I have a 4.0 that has broken motor mount on block, aftermarket mount that picks up extra holes for it, nsg that shifts super well, full exhaust (one sawzall cut), harness, pigtails from body where needed, cluster.

Everything was in good driving order.

What can I reasonably ask for them? Anyone looking?

Oil pressure sensor surprised me by being days early. Got a small drive at actual speed in today. About 45mph. Preliminarily things seem good.

You are living the dream my dude. Actually driving a car you swapped is 👌 and you made such good time.

Getting there! A ton more work to do, id guess at least 60 more hours to actually button this thing up correctly to be ready for the trip (assuming nothing substantial is wrong that I am not seeing).

I am fairly happy with my time. I definitely could have improved it by about a month if I didn’t do non Jeep stuff as much. The problem is I can only work as hard as the time I have. If I have too much time I literally do nothing, if I have no time I can usually pull off stupid projects.

When did you start the swap again? Hell mine took like 2 full years and I didn't do as good of a job as you.

I would guess $1200-1500 but that might be high. That is a PNW price & things here seem to run higher. But since it's got everything that might be OK.

You made good time with your swap. I hope it all works like you want it to and don't have any SNAFU's along the way...

I just did WAY too much at once on mine which is part of why it's taken so long. And then every time I feel like I'm close something happens to set me back.
But I really think I'm close now.

I was hoping at least $1,000, I’ll start high.

Verdict is definitely still out on how it works out haha

Right around February 1st of this year. This one definitely isn’t amazing work, my welding could use some improvement.

Couple months is AWESOME. Seems to be the norm for something like this to take a year or two. Good work man.

You were definitely prepared which helps but damn I thought I was too and a bunch of parts ended up not working lol.

The one thing that I did that pained me was order everything I could think, and sometimes multiples because I didn’t have time. I probably wasted hundreds of dollars on extra parts.

Well if it makes you feel better I did too and I ordered one after the other and had to wait 🤣

@Apparition sold his last year I think.
What did you get for your engine and transmission Ryan?

I sold the whole drivetrain for $4k. Engine had 62.5k on it.

Tires, wheels, axles, tcase, tranny, engine, exhaust, harness, computer etc. only thing I kept was the radiator. All stock near as I could tell.

I'd start @ $2K or $2250 and let them talk you down...

I've got a TON of parts I need to get listed for sale too. Be nice to make some money back on all the stuff I'm not going to use now.

If that transmission really is in good shape it's a bit of a hens tooth to find. Maybe 1500 just for it?

Unfortunately that’d take someone to trust me, and I don’t blame people for not trusting random people.

I will say it wasn’t nearly as nice as the T56 I had, but it didn’t grind, pop out of gear, or do anything at all weird. I read plenty of complaints about these NSG’s and can’t say I really had any of them, and I am picky.

Waiting for a new soldering iron to come in. I haven’t driven it anymore until I get fan in.

Quickly diagnosed my lack of engine temp at gauge. Sender seems to be working, nothing on the gauge. I need to pull the cluster out and see if it’s a grounding issue or what. Once this is fixed I can hook up my fan and program it’s PWM controller. The one guy that has tested a bunch of fans claims he doesn’t see how you could possibly run this fan at 100% short of a trip to the sun so it may be nice having a lot of adjustability.

I then need to:
-Change muffler
-Finish exhaust past axle
-Install transfer case shifter cable
-Install front driveshaft
-Install and wire AC
-Permanently mount numerous small things
-Replace rear LCA’s
-Replace rear track bar
-Replace front sway bar links
-Replace front passenger brake line
-Remove shifter detents
-Sound/heat deaden and install carpet
-Wire and add trailer brake controller
-Hook up to camper and determine if suspension will work
-Add tow/haul mode

Not even remotely close to done yet, but driving daily after this week will help me feel better.
