4.8 Swap LJ

Woohoo congrats! First start up is huge

Right or wrong, it did feel pretty good. I’m a little worried though as to how simple it seemed to start , it turned over like 10 times and started like a used Silverado that sat for a month. It shouldn’t have been that easy, though I think I have some issues (fuel or air), my guess is vent on fuel as everything is still plumbed factory with evap stuff. Hopefully I disconnect it and let it vent and it will fix it. It started idled and slowly idled down to nothing. Then it started, revved a bit and died.

Easier than expected is good, no? Hopefully a couple easy tweaks and it'll be idling. I know I was surprised AF when my MR2 started an idled the first time I tried, lol

It is. I was first paranoid as it wasn’t building oil pressure when turning over without spark plugs in. More turning over than I would have guessed ironed that out. Now I’m probably being paranoid it isn’t idling perfectly in its first 20 seconds of running in the Jeep.

It is good to prime them with an oil pressure tank before start up. No old school distributor to remove and spin up the oil pump

Certainly can’t hurt to do that and I probably should have. I did oil everything before I resealed and turned over without spark plugs. Maybe it was a mistake not priming with a pressure tank, guess if/when I have issues I have something to blame 🤣

You'll be ok 🤟

Surely this giant hole in the intake wouldn’t be causing my idling issues…

🤦

Almost 3 weeks, wow.

Wiring is mostly buttoned up and mostly works…🤣

Goal was to test drive this weekend, best preliminary guess is I miss that by a week but making some good progress. Way more work wiring than I thought.

Have one of the two pain in the ass exhaust sections cut and fit, need to wire 220v back up and see what happens this weekend.

Trans mount is mostly figured out (not a big deal).

Transmission shifter will be a pain in the ass but I’m sure I will get it. I got a free TJ auto shifter and floor plate, running Lokar adjustable linkage and Novak mount.

I’ll likely test drive without front driveshaft or transfer case linkage, not that it’s hard to install but I have a deadline and need to make sure I don’t have real issues.

Built most of phase 1 of the exhaust today. Need to add bungs for o2 and hangers.

Hoping to have the shifter mostly figured out and skid plate one. That will leave a small amount of wiring then reassembly time.

Cool,
Glad it's moving along for you.

Exhaust is dumped at the axle and should be okay for a test drive. Shifter still needs a little fine tuning but I can hit all the important gears to test drive.

I didn’t like my cooler line setup so parts are coming tomorrow.

Biggest remaining steps are rear uca, rear driveshaft, radiator, and trans cooler.

Should be sitting reasonably to try to test drive this weekend.

Have some temporary solutions in place until I figure out permanent ones but getting closer. Some more wire management to do but it’s starting to look reasonable. Won’t drive today, missing some parts, should be able to try it tomorrow or Tuesday.
